LOCAL: The latest release from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows quite the improvement for Deaf Smith County from the previous week. Currently 80.42% of the county has no drought conditions, compared to 45.81% a week ago. Just a slight portion of far western Deaf Smith remains in D1 at .38%, with the remaining 19.58% in the D0 or abnormally dry category.
Funeral services for Adolfo Del Toro, age 88, are Monday at 10:00 at San Jose Catholic Church. A viewing and visitation is being held Sunday from 2:30-8:00 at Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home. Adolfo was a skilled carpenter and also worked as a sheep shearer among his career paths. He’s remembered as a loving family man. He died on Wednesday in Amarillo.
The VFW is holding a fundraising dinner tomorrow for Post renovations. The calf-fry and chicken nugget dinner with all the fixings is $10 and served from 5:00-8:00 at the VFW Post at 130 Veterans Park Road. A karaoke contest will follow
Another round of showers and thunderstorms could impact the western Panhandle this evening before precipitation chances all but vanish from the extended forecast. Confidence is increasing in favor of a long stretch of triple digit temps beginning Sunday or Monday.
