We have encountered an issue with the delivery of some papers for our residents in Havana. Unfortunately, a bundle of papers could not be delivered this week. We sincerely apologize for this mistake, which was beyond our control.
Despite this mishap, we want to ensure that you can still enjoy your paper this week, especially with all the Black Friday specials. Please note that our offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday so our employees can spend time with their families. However, you are welcome to come to our office at 219 W Market Street to pick up a paper from the orange box outside. It is unlocked; just pull it open to get your paper.

At 3:35pm, 911 dispatch center received a call of a structure fire located at 328 South Plum. The first fire department unit was on scene within 5 minutes and it was determined that the fire was located in the rear of the property behind the carriage house, which is separate from the main house. The fire was brought under control in 14 minutes and was confined to the rear of the carriage house and the fence. Cause of the fire was an unattended pile of leaves that was burning earlier in the day. The Havana Fire Department received automatic aid from Havana Rural and Kilbourne Fire Departments. Estimated cost of damage is less than $10,000.00.

Veteran's Day Ceremonies were conducted at the Mason County Courtyard Monday morning under beautiful blue skies. The Havana H.S. band and chorus provided patriotic music for the occasion. The American Legion and V.F.W. members organized the activities.

Laverdiere Construction of Macomb began installation of the the cover over the stage at the top of Riverfront Park this week. The Park District is using a portion of their OSLAD grant to make these improvements and they plan to expand the summer music offerings and opportunities at the part in 2025.

Trick or Treaters enjoyed beautiful weather Friday afternoon at downtown Havana. Community business owners lined Main and Plum Streets to pass out goodies to a wide spectrum of young costumed participants. No one enjoyed themselves more than the adults did.

This aerial view of the Lawford Theater, taken Wednesday morning, shows the extent of the damage caused by the roof collapsing early Monday evening. City Hall was undamaged, while The Neverending Story bookstore received minor damage. Both structures appear to be structurally sound.

Just shortly before 5 p.m., the back half of the roof of the Lawford Theater in downtown Havana collapsed, falling mostly inside the building itself, and into the alley behind it. A broken gas line required the evacuation of a two block area of downtown until Ameren was able to cap it and repair downed power line. No one was hurt but City Hall will be closed until a structural engineer can determine if the City was damaged. Also closed will be The Neverending Story book store which reportedly had damage inside from the shared wall with the Lawford.

Hundreds of Motorcyles and hundreds of Jeeps filled downtown Havana on Sunday as members of the Peacekeepers made a stop in Havana during their daylong ride. The goal of the organization is to assist the families of Illinois Law Enforcement and The Illinois Military Family Relief Fund. In addition to filling Main Street, Jeeps packed Plum Street, the Mason County Courthouse parking lot and more.

You can’t put a damper on the Mason County queen pageant. As soon as the downpour was over, everyone went to work!

Havana music teacher Stashia Oest led back to back music programs by 3rd Graders and then 4th Graders Wednesday night, topped off with a finale that blew away everyone as they dimmed the lights and students from both classes put on a show with lighted buckets and lighted drum sticks. Mr. Oest was the mastermind behind the lights and sound system for the program.
