(AP) More than 17,000 AT&T workers in nine states across the Southeast are on strike. The Communications Workers of America represents the striking employees and says workers walked off the job Friday in response to AT&T’s failure to bargain in good faith. The labor organization says AT&T did not send representatives to the bargaining table who had authority to make decisions. AT&T says the accusations are “not grounded in fact.” The strike involves AT&T technicians, customer service representatives, and others who install, maintain and support AT&T’s residential and business networks. It involves workers in Mississippi, as well as Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.

Meanwhile, another lightning strike left thousands in Wayne County without water. That strike cracked a main water line, affecting those in the Hiwannee Water Association – and spurring local leaders and volunteers to join forces to bring water to those who needed it. Both twins hoped to be accepted to Yale University, but later decided on Harvard after being accepted to several schools; Stanford and Columbia were among those on the list. Rachele said she plans to pursue a pre-medical major, while Michelle said she will major in pre-law. The girls said they were thankful for the parents who pushed them to take their education seriously while still being active in high school. The twins also said they’ll miss simple things, like driving and the warm Mississippi weather. But as long as they’re together, no challenge is too big.
