Saturday afternoon, some of Jones County's firefighter students received critical live fire training with other Jones County volunteer firefighters at a brick home on JP Parker Road. These scheduled burns sometimes assist owners in clearing their property and give firefighters opportunities to keep skills and procedures fresh on their minds.
Live fire training is essential to teach firefighter students and refresh existing firefighters in safety procedures that save lives. This training also gives students of firefighting practical, hands-on training in procedures used to extinguish fires while preserving property when possible.
The students have been learning through the Jones County Fire Council's training officer, James Garick's Firefighter I class. Existing volunteers assisting and keeping their skills fresh through the live fire training were from Pleasant Ridge, Calhoun, Soso, and Hebron volunteer fire departments.
