O'Brien County is now included in FEMA Individual Assistance!
FEMA will be in Hartley tomorrow (Saturday, July 6). They will be going door to door to help you through the assistance process.
The people coming to your door will be wearing identification lanyards.
Please check identification when people arrive at your door.

(Important update for O’Brien County Residents: July 5, 2024)

O’Brien County has been approved by FEMA for Individual Assistance! Thank you for submitting your damage data and reporting information to O’Brien County EMA. This disaster has impacted thousands of people in the NW Iowa area. This approval is a major step to help with recovery. Thank you!

Options for applying for assistance:

-There will be several Disaster Survivor Assistance (DSA) Teams in the area going door to door. (There are multiple teams in the NW Iowa Area.) FEMA staff will have a FEMA ID that they will wear on a lanyard around their neck. Please ask to see the ID.

-You may call FEMA’s hotline at 800-621-3362

-Visit www.disasterassistance.gov

-You may download the FEMA App

-You may go to one of the open Disaster Recovery Centers

- Location: Rock Valley – FEMA Disaster Recovery Center (City Park Shelter House) 1013 13th Avenue, Rock Valley, IA 51247 (Hours: 8 am to 6 pm every day until further notice)

American Red Cross is set up out front of City Hall handing out flood clean up items. If you are in need, please stop up! They have shovels, rakes, garbage sacks and clean up kits available.

The Red Cross is also handing meals out in the empty parking lot on the south end of central. Stop by and get a nice meal!

Please be aware of scammers in our area. DO NOT give out your social security number and banking information. If you are donating to an agency, please make sure that the agency is not a fraud program.

At this point in time, the Iowa Individual Disaster Assistance Grant Program and Disaster Case Advocacy Program are the only programs that have been activated for assistance in O'Brien County.

FEMA and Homeland Security from Iowa are coming to O'Brien County TODAY - Friday, June 28 to inspect several potential 'major/destroyed' homes.

We anticipate they will be in Hartley this afternoon. There will be 4 people in the group: Jared Johnson with O'Brien County EMA, 2 FEMA and 1 Homeland Security.

UPDATED INFO ON HARTLEY CLEAN-UP!!!

NOTICE: RESIDENTIAL ONLY. A 30-yard roll-off box has been placed at the City of Hartley Shop located at 140 3rd ST SW. We have a second drop off location on the west side of the shop in between the barricades. If you are able, please take your items to the Hartley dump site. When unloading, please stay between the barricades and do not block TCA equipment.
Beginning Monday, July 1, the City will begin picking up large items from the curb and delivering them to the dump site for those who cannot take their items to the dump site.
NOTE: THE FOLLOWING ITEMS ARE NOT ALLOWED: Appliances: Water heaters | Plastic Water Heaters (like Marathon) | Water Softeners | Electronics | Paint | Tires | Computers | Computer towers | TVs | Printers | Computer monitors
