Sen. Berthel, ranking member is state education committee: “We’re at a point where someone besides the people who are running Hartford Public Schools need to be in charge of that school system,” he said.

“My call to action is we have to fix what’s broken in Hartford Public Schools, so that these kids come out of their high schools with a diploma, and they’ve actually earned it, and they meet the standards,” Berthel said, also raising broad criticisms about how urban school districts across the state are managed.”

Flags in Hartford should fly at half staff today as we mourn the futures of Hartford students and teachers after a collision with blind and out of touch BOE members as they approved a contract extension for Superintendent Torres-Rodriguez by a 5-2 vote on Wednesday evening. Please bow your heads for a moment of silence.

At last the CT Department of Education has noticed that Hartford's school system has not improved and is falling apart.
