Mothers Day History:

The modern holiday of Mother's Day was first celebrated in 1908, when Anna Jarvis held a memorial for her mother at St Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia. Today St Andrew's Methodist Church now holds the International Mother's Day Shrine.[6] Her campaign to make "Mother's Day" a recognized holiday in the United States began in 1905, the year her mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, died. Ann Jarvis had been a peace activist who cared for wounded soldiers on both sides of the American Civil War, and created Mother’s Day Work Clubs to address public health issues. Anna Jarvis wanted to honor her mother by continuing the work she started and to set aside a day to honor all mothers, because she believed that they were "the person who has done more for you than anyone in the world".

Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which day events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. The Mercer Chamber of Commerce and local businesses put on their blue and grey shirts to take part in the community Clean Up of Mercer County. Let’s keep Harrodsburg looking great, pick up any trash you see today!

HLM recently reviewed one of the nicest additions to this community. There are actually many people that haven’t been here yet, even though it has been around for quite a while, we highly encourage you to visit. I have always enjoyed this place even as a child and I enjoy it even more now. This place is free of charge and has everything one could imagine. This location sits in downtown beautiful Harrodsburg. This building has improved so much since its card catalog days. It is the one and only, Mercer County Public Library.

The Mercer County Library has doubled in size and turned into several open area libraries. These areas are known as the children zone, teenage zone, computer zone, research zone and relaxation zone. There are children programs and even family flicks night. There are study nooks, fire places, outdoor seating and even beautiful paintings by J.B Armstrong. This impeccable place makes you feel wonderful. Everything is easy to use, in great condition, and the staff is extremely helpful. We encourage you to take a look, grab a book at the one and only Mercer County Public Library.

We here at HLM look forward to a beautiful fun filled warm weekend. With such beautiful weather, we find ourselves outside using our outdoor cooking skills. Yes, 80 percent of us are grilling! Something about grilling just makes the day a little brighter. So make this weekend special and head out to the local grocery to buy those hotdogs, hamburgers, sausage, ribs, steak, fish, shrimp and even vegetables to make your weekend just perfect.
