Was asked by a fan about a word that caused some controversy on Reddit (a realm funkier than Dearthwood forest). It stems from a roll-chart in Village Book I, which titles a location as an "Orcamitory."

This is a Bobbism which appears in Village Book I (1978) and in his 1975 Tolkien Campaign notes. His village of Bree on the Brandywine had an Orcamitory, being "a boarding house for Goblins, Hobgoblins, Orcs, and Trolls"... There having been some snootiness amongst the more-human travelers, when it came to sleeping under the same roof with the less-charismatic breeds. An Orcamitory likely could also be used by lepers, people with substantial deformities, or a CHA < 4.

I hope this answers. - Bob II, JG

Some call it RBF or resting barbarian face but the iconic face of our hero was inspired by the face of Turkish actor Yavuz "Selekman".

The Guild archives over the years has endured a fire, 2 burglaries, and a tornado, yet still hold great gems, like this letter from a guildmember in 1977. We had just completed our first year, and this shows the frustrations a judge faced, when players were "born" in a hole, and not expected to ever walk in the sunshine and survive. It is a telling letter, a glimpse of the efforts to force the rules beyond the box-set mentality. The Wilderlands beckoned, and the call was real.

We cherish all your letters, and keep them as best we can. Enjoy the look back โœŒ๏ธ

By May, 1979, the Guild, then on University Avenue had begun regular weekend gaming nights open to the public. Though our offices were cramped and players had to sit at our desks, a few card-tables were set up, and our 3 computers were often in use. This poor picture shows high-schoolers in our offices, surrounded by note-posted dark corkboard walls. It became a weekly event, and by 1981, at the larger Sunnyside location, we regularly hosted 20-40 players each weekend. We sponsored D&D clubs at the local schools and bought advertisements in the school newspapers. Several of these local players found their first jobs at the Guild.

Guild Family and Friends,
We learned of the passing of Jim Ward, and it was especially hard to write a post about this. I did not wish to cover the details of his career as many have. I did not want it to be about his many contributions to the Guild, Dungeoneer, or other products. That can be covered by others.
I wanted it to speak of his spirit. He was a Good, Honest, and Kindhearted Man.
Because of those qualities, he will be dearly missed on several levels in our industry and society as a whole. He stood up to what he believed were moral wrongs, and paid personally for those sacrifices. In many ways, he suffered for being a Nice Guy in a dog-eat-dog world.

Years ago, and I have known him for many years, I tagged him with the title "Biggest Heart in Gaming," and I believed it to be true. He would always offer help, suggestions, and his time. We can always use people like that, and although many did use Jim for his creativity and intelligence, we all gained joy from his works. They were many, and uniquely Ward.

Lastly, I will say Jim suffered in his last years. Health took its toll in a cruel fashion, and his mind was often bothered by the spirits of the past; mostly injustices he was subjected to, because he was that Nice Guy, who would not bow to do the dirty work of his masters. I am torn between sadness for the loss of such a Good Person, and gladness that his suffering has ended.

Remember Jim Ward, and try to be like him in spirit. A Spirit of Kindness may cost you financially, but such a friend can never be bought. May God embrace this Good Man.
