It’s that time of year in the Magic City when we welcome two distinct seasons: the winter holidays and the return of the snowbirds. Sure, that means a bit of extra hustle and bustle. But the excitement of sharing our most treasured traditions with family and friends—plus sharing our beautiful city with folks seeking out this particular slice of paradise—makes it all worthwhile.

This month’s issue celebrates all things holiday. From the cover story featuring a chef-driven Hanukkah dinner hosted by Miami Beach luminaries Lesley Goldwasser and Jonathan Plutzik in their art-filled home to Jules Aron’s gorgeously gourmet cocktails worthy of any seasonal soiree, this issue is chock-full of December delights.

Guiding Lights

Museum guides are often unobtrusive presences. Visitors peering at paintings and scoping out sculptures may hardly notice them at their posts. But these art aficionados notice a lot—from hearing gallery-goers scoff at works they dislike to patrons weeping in front of pieces that move them to tears. We caught up with professional guides at five of Miami’s most iconic museums to learn about their line of work and their favorite works of art.

Meet Catalina Rubiano, Maria Mauro, Lauren Baccus, Cynthia O’Keefe, and Cassandra Johnson here: https://aventuramagazine.com/guiding-lights/

The Miami native says fashion was always in the cards. He learned to sew in the ninth grade and crafted prom dresses for his friends inspired by Vivienne Westwood, Michael Kors for Celine, and Alexander McQueen. He went on to study fashion at the International Fine Arts College (now known as Miami International University of Art & Design) before spending a year at the Paris Fashion Institute.

When he landed at Rene Ruiz Collection in 2008, it was a match made in heaven. “Evening wear is my passion,” Escudero says. “I’m lucky. It’s fun for me, and at this point, it’s second nature.”
