STUDIO UPDATE-The new digs are super vibey and magical, and it’s been a smooth transition so far. We’ve got a crew to help move the Neve desk and outboard gear on Jan 3rd, as it will take several of us to get this part done. In the meantime, we’ve still got mixing and vocal sessions at the cabin for the next several days. We’ve been able to move and work simultaneously, which has been super excellent. Dirt Floor will be back to our normally scheduled sessions at the end of the first week of January. Whew!
I've read that Gus Dudgeon didn't like using the ARP String Ensemble on Elton John's Captain Fantastic and The Brown Dirt Cowboy album because he felt it was a poor imitation of strings, which, by design, it was trying to emulate. The way it comes in on the very last chorus of "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" and stays until the end, is brilliant and impactful, in a subtle way. Put your AirPods in and listen to the song, and when that final chorus comes in, you will hear it. This is when I actually first noticed this wonderful synth, used on too many other records to list here. Even though it failed to deliver what it was intended for, it shines beautifully in what it wasn't! Here is ours, through a Neve 1073 preamp. You'll find this and several other wonderful vintage keyboards here, to use on your next project!

Getting those David Lindley/Jackson Browne vibes.
Anyone can open a studio. Anyone can buy gear and fill a space. Theres nothing special about that, seriously. What’s kept Dirt Floor on a trajectory for 17 years is a stellar rep, a great team, and killer production. I’m unapologetically confident and proud, because it’s been earned through years of hard work. REAL work. Not some fake Instagram cosplay bullsh*t. Let’s face it, there’s A TON of that out there. Anyway, I digress!
I can put it all together from a production standpoint, with instrumentation and arrangement. This is not typical in your average recording studio, and it’s what sets us far apart. Of course it’s not always necessary for this to be done, and not every artist or band will need my assistance. That’s cool too. We can also work with any artist or band simply looking to get some great recordings done. We can also mix and master any project recorded anywhere. We’ve got you!
This song came in purely acoustic, but became more powerful and emotional, thanks to the artists willingness to let us take it to this place. There was a Jackson Browne/Dawes kind of vibe happening in the original song, so we just followed it!
