One summer morning, the mayor's wife is found murdered under a railroad bridge. Fourteen-year-old Mason is found covered in blood and leaning over the body. He is the son of Miss USA Genevieve Hill, and he is non-verbal autistic. The local authorities bring in an autism expert, Casey Walker, to help with the investigation.
She tries to keep an open mind, but as she works with the Hill family, she discovers more and more secrets. Is Genevieve just a worried mother trying to protect her son? Or is there something deeper and more sinister happening in this family?
While I like a good mystery, psychological thrillers aren't my usual genre. This one was full of twists and secrets and questions at every level. I was completely enthralled and found myself talking about it often while I was reading.

Our discussion at book club was excellent. It was interesting to hear how each of us interpreted parts of the story. Because there were so many twists and layers of secrets, we each had different feelings about how much each character really knew and their level of involvement.
My one frustration is that I wanted at least one more chapter or an epilogue. There were two storylines that weren't quite wrapped up. I want to say that I'm fine with an ending being open to interpretation, but if I'm honest, I'm not. I like the story to have closure. There was one character whose story was unfinished. A sequel perhaps?
This might be a good book for you if you like....
