For those who thought we forgot....we haven't, the season will kick off for us soon. We had a few hiccups over the last few months but we are ready to get this started.

Coach Jenkins signs his 5-year contract with the expectations of winning 4 games in season one. While we hope we win more than that, we do know that he will have a long road ahead of himself. We welcome the FCS Southeast *UGF* Pandas to William Davis Stadium in "Week 0". Checkout the video below for the rest of our schedule.

During our first scrimmage, Freshman Kade Valor made his presence known to JR QB David DePol. Valor finished the intersquad scrimmage with 4 sacks and an interception. Valor is quickly winning over the coaching staff and may find his way onto the field at TE or FB this season.

Knowing that his team will need to be focused more on putting up points and staying aggressive, Coach Tom Jenkins is going to utilize a Power Spread Offense with his athletic QB's and 1-2 punch of Speed and Power at the RB position. While on defense the plan will be to attack the offense and if we stop them, great. At least for the first year while he has players that have to play both ways.

when it comes to a football team *and school* the size of ours we have guys that will have to play both sides of the ball, that means extra conditioning for everyone, including the lineman. We have some good players, but they will be tested on both sides of the ball everywhere. Meanwhile, our opponents will be boasting rosters of at least 70 players, most likely with depth at each of those positions.

When you are starting an athletic program *as well as a university* from the ground up, it's hard to find people who are interested in becoming your school's FIRST Head Coach. We decided it would be best to hire someone who we felt would grow within the program, and not someone that had already truly established themselves in the coaching stratosphere.

Enter our football coach for the 2024, Tom Jenkins. Jenkins wasn't known for his physical ability on the football field, but rather his tactics. Out smarting his opponents and bringing out the best abilities in all of his teammates. We are hoping that he will be able to bring his strategic style and motivational skills to the USWA Otters this fall.

Although he had a great senior season in high school, the only year he played Varsity, he did not play in college. He attended UAB where he was a video coordinator for the football team while earning a degree in sports management. Following graduation he was invited to join the staff at UAB as a graduate assistant, by head coach Trent Dilfer. Dilfer was enamored by Jenkins's "vision for the game" and when he heard other schools were offering Jenkins an opportunity to be a "quality control coach" Dilfer ended up hiring him to become the QB coach in 2023. Dilfer reached out to our Athletic Director in hopes of getting Jenkins a spot as the Offensive Coordinator, but our AD offered Jenkins the head coaching job after meeting the brilliant young mind. It remains to be seen what Jenkins will be able to bring to the table in 2024. We will post again soon with the type of offensive scheme and defensive scheme he plans to utlilize.
