General Submission Guidelines:
Perceptions publishes short fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, visual art, photography, music and short film. Our pages include work from established writers/artists as well as new talent. All submissions are read blind to avoid bias – please include contact info, but do not put your name on individual submissions. We review work from September 15-January 15 for e
ach issue. Simultaneous submissions are considered but please contact us promptly if your work is accepted elsewhere. Email submissions are greatly preferred. Submissions and/or queries may be directed to [email protected]. Snail mail may be sent to: Mt. Hood Community College, Humanities Division c\o Perceptions, 26000 SE Stark Street, Gresham OR 97030. The editors may choose to ignore submissions that do not follow the guidelines below! Genre Guidelines:
Poetry – Submit no more than 8 poems. No restrictions on style, length, or theme. Please send poems as word doc attachments to retain original formatting. Fiction/Nonfiction – Submit no more than 3 pieces of short fiction or creative nonfiction. No restrictions on style or theme, but each story should be no longer than 25 pages, double-spaced. Photography/Visual Art – Submit no more than 8 photos or pieces of visual art. We print both color and black and white photography and art. No restrictions on style or theme. For judging purposes, editors can view small and/or low resolution files sent as jpeg attachments. You may also direct us to a website with your work, but please let us know which specific pieces you would like us to consider. If accepted, we will need high resolution files (at least 300 dpi, preferably jpegs). Music – Submit no more than 5 songs. No restrictions on style or theme, but all work must be original (NO COVERS!)
Short Film - Submit no more than 3 short films. No restrictions on style or theme, but all work must be original and less than 30 minutes in length. You may submit in as many categories as you like!
