Do not fall for tax scams!
As the tax season gets underway, scammers are gearing up to try and frighten taxpayers out of their hard-earned money. You may receive threatening letters, emails, or phone calls from them.
Whether they are pretending to be from the State or the IRS, NEVER give them any personal information! DO NOT PAY THEM ANYTHING without directly contacting the entity yourself. This means looking up the phone number, website address, or email on your own and not clicking any link or dialing any number they give you.
If you owe money, you will be contacted in the normal manner by the state or federal government, which is by mail in an official envelope... which can still be faked so refer back to my previous paragraph!
For more information on recent scams in the State of Texas visit this link (feel free to look it up and type it in directly, just to get in the habit!).
Stay safe out there!

Crime Stoppers is comprised of diverse, active and dedicated community representatives. Crime Stoppers provides a method for local law enforcement to receive information on crimes. These efforts increase tips, which in turn increase arrests in our community.
The Hunt County Crime Stoppers program began in 1983 from the efforts of the Greenville Police Department. The program now operates as an independent organization and has developed into a collaborative partnership between local media, businesses, civic and social clubs, law enforcement agencies, and the public. Donations of airtime, newspaper space, and reward monies have established Crime Stoppers as an effective tool to fight crime throughout the Hunt County, TX area.
Hunt County Crime Stoppers encourages members of the community to assist local law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime by overcoming the two key elements that inhibit community involvement: fear and apathy.
Crime Stoppers provides a telephone number, 903-457-2929, and the ability to submit web tips through our website, www.HuntCountyCrimeStoppers.com, to encourage citizens in the community to volunteer vital information helpful to law enforcement agencies to fight against crime. Callers can remain anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward if the information given leads to an arrest of a felony offender.
In order to administer the program, Hunt County Crime Stoppers relies on tax-deductible contributions from the public and a volunteer Board of Directors: Kami Williams, Chairman; Suzy Ramirez, Vice Chairman; Jeff Haines, Law Enforcement Coordinator; Misty Greer-Little, Treasurer. Glenda Yost, Secretary.
