As tractor geeks, we love:

- Calendar dates which are also tractor models, aka: 2-20, Two-Twenty.
- Check numbers that are tractor models.
- When the last four of a phone number is a tractor model. Such as, 3-Point Ink's 1550 phone number.

2-20 = TWO-TWENTY DAY!

The first Two-Twenty rolled off the assembly line on March 17, 1969 - the first serial numbered tractor was 1004. The Two-Twenty was nicknamed โ€œThe Landhandlerโ€, and this became so popular with Allis-Chalmers that they eventually used the term as the title for their direct mail publication and for some of the other models, but the name originated with the Two-Twenty.

Readers can't get enough of these homemade tractor articles! Check out what's coming in the next issue of Heritage Iron Magazine.

Coming in the next issue of Heritage Iron:
Erickson Manufacturing

"Erickson tractors fueled my passion for homemade four-wheel-drive tractors and are the primary reason I began researching and documenting such machines. Erickson Manufacturing may not have grown to the size of Steiger or other manufacturers, but they left a pretty good mark on the history of early 4WD tractors. "
- Jesse Henderson, author and homemade tractor historian.

The "problem child" on the farm.
Every farmer has owned that "one" tractor they remember for all the wrong reasons.

And every manufacturer does, too.
For Ford... it was the 6000.

1960: Harold Brock was working at Ford as Chief Engineer. They were working on a powershift transmission known as the Select-O-Speed to come out in the new Model 6000. Still preliminary in testing (and at the time, failing), Ford wanted to get the jump on the competition and introduce this transmission before it was ready. Brock strongly opposed this decision and told the powers that be that if they proceeded without the necessary changes, they would need a new engineer. Ford proceeded with their introduction anyway, which ended badly. Brock left the company.... and went to Deere. The Ford 6000s were pulled back in for rebuilds but not without damage to the companyโ€™s reputation.

Ford wasn't the only manufacturer to produce a problem child throughout the years - Allis, Case, Deere, they all had them. Read the full story in the Jan/Feb issue of Heritage Iron Magazine. Link in the comments!

Side note: what a remarkable Oliver! That industrial orange kind of reminds us of pumpkin pie, or sweet potato casserole, or glazed carrots..... or Doritos! Is it Thanksgiving yet?! Whatever orange foods grace your holiday table this year, remember to be thankful for family, friends, fellowship, and the little blessings that are everyday life.

And, because we know someone out there will relate:
"On Thanksgiving, country folks don't eat breakfast. We starve until the food is ready." - Jeff Foxworthy

The 770 was such a popular model and good fit for every farm that it carried on from the 3-digit through the 100 series and into the 50 series models of the 4-digit era. The 770 is a LEGEND, and it's your Dec/Jan 2025 feature tractor.
