πŸŽ‰ Congratulations to Shelby Russell for being awarded this year's Best and Brightest 35 and under. She is a 3L for University of South Carolina School of Law✨

Russell joined the Army at the age of 18. Her military service shaped who she is today, instilling in her the fundamental values of leadership and public service that have guided her career ever since. She decided to pursue a legal education. She chose the University of South Carolina School of Law due to its proximity to both the state capital and numerous military bases, making it an ideal location for veterans advocacy.

A significant part of her legal education is centered around supporting underserved veterans with civil rights issues, health care, and housing insecurities through her work at both the USC and Yale law schools’ veterans legal clinics. As a law student, she has been dedicated to supporting veteran law students, who are often starting over in life and overcoming substantial obstacles from their service.

Huge congrats and thank you for your service!

USC Economists Predict Expansion of South Carolina’s Economy in 2025

South Carolina’s economy is expected to expand in 2025 with steady growth projected across most industries, even as inflationary pressures remain a concern, according to economists Douglas Woodward, Ph.D., and Joseph Von Nessen, Ph.D.

The University of South Carolina Darla Moore School of Business, in partnership with the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, released the 2025 economic forecast at Wednesday’s 44th annual Economic Outlook Conference, held at the Pastides Alumni Center.

The Palmetto State is likely to see steady growth in 2025 despite an increased risk for inflation.

The outlook highlighted how the state’s economy has readjusted to more sustainable growth patterns following the deflation of the stimulus-based pandemic bubble.

Lending a Helping Hand After Helene

Hurricane Helene slammed the Southeast at the end of September, and since then money and supplies have streamed in from across the country to assist those struggling to put their lives back in order.

Businesses and individuals have taken an active role in recovery efforts, and many from South Carolina companies have rolled up their sleeves to offer help in the wake of the storm, which claimed at least 230 lives, including more than 100 in North Carolina and 49 in South Carolina.

β€œI just keep reflecting on the fact that they are there living in this every single day,” said Jessica Munday, chief executive officer of Mount Pleasant marketing communications firm Trio Solutions Inc.

Munday’s parents live in western North Carolina, along with many of her friends. She wasted little time pitching in, making her first trip to the mountains a day after Helene roared through the region. She’s been back several times since then.

β€œThe level of destruction is something that most people can’t wrap their heads around until they see it in person,” she said. β€œIt’s heartbreaking, and it’s depressing.”
