UPDATE: You may have noticed we haven't had anything on the performance scheule lately, and I am to blame for that. I am currently wrapping up tracks and post production for my album coming up. Wrapping up mixing and mastering and some odds and ends with the help of Key Element Studios. Once songs and mastering are done I will work on financing for a short run vinyl LP release. Can't wait for everyone to hear it! It will feature also some guest musicians from the upstate! Also when completed be on the lookout for an album release party at a venue yet to be determined where we will play though the album from start to finish and then do a set of our usual fare.

"Fix it in Post"

This is a scary phrase. This assumes that whoever is saying this, knows that the issue during production can be fixed after the recording is complete in the post production process. Unfortunately, sometimes, they do not know.

Often noises, tuning, mistakes, God forbid performance issues are just some of potential "fix it in post" reasons.

These kind of decisions are often made due to time, cost, or budget constraints.

Here's some keys to knowing when to fix it in post:

1) What is the most important thing about your project?

Knowing the goal of your project will help you understand what you need to focus on. Sometimes the best performance is not perfection. It is the passion or feeling you've captured. In music, performance is king. Translating the emotion of a performance far outweighs mistakes or subtle issues.

2) Rely on the experts!

In video production, there are many experts (hopefully) around you on set that can give you a thumbs up or thumbs down on these questions. The sound mixer can give you a quick yes or no about a retake if he got the dialogue clean or not. On higher production sets, redundancy with multiple mics, safety tracks, and excellent boom operation can negate having too many fix it in post issues. It will happen for sure regardless of how well you are set up. In fact, the fix it in post issue can help save those moments you capture imperfectly, but remember the goal!

3) The sooner you fix the better!

In the music and video production workflow, it is always better to fix the problem at the beginning than the end when possible. In music, having the right mic and mic technique saves exponential time in the edit, mix and master by capturing it the way you want to hear it first! A little extra time getting the tone and ambience you want from the beginning translates from start to end. This is why engineers will spend so much money on equipment to capture the sound the way they want in the beginning.

Couple of notes:

***Equipment doesn't make you good at your job. A pencil in the hands of a true artist is still just a pencil. The same goes for sound engineers, boom ops, camera ops...

***Often high end equipment needs come from mastery of the craft. A $20,000 instrument in the hands of a beginner may not be the best choice, but for someone who can use the potential of an instrument to the fullest, that value may be worth it.

It's been a minute!

I recently finished the largest project to date in partnership with The Refinery with more slated on the way!

I can't wait to share its release with you once it goes live. Hundreds of hours over months of shooting and editing invested just on my part alone, not counting the work Rick Burris has invested into this new program working with Paul Martinelli's team to bring the most complete and refined sales program.

It's been an honor working with business, and sales masters like Paul Martinelli Holly Martinelli Rick Ruperto with Scott Schmaren, Laurel Johnson, Regina Bryan in subjects covering sales technique to human behavior, emotional intelligence, hypnosis, tonality...

Keep an eye out for its release!
