Mauldin Police Department Charges Two in Connection With Road Rage Shooting
Incident occurred Wednesday morning on West Butler Road, leaving one injured

MAULDIN, S.C. — The Mauldin Police Department has charged two people in connection with a road rage shooting that happened Wednesday morning on West Butler Road near Whatley Circle.

John Robison, 54, of Piedmont, has been charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Csaba Szabo, 53, of Greenville, has been charged with reckless driving.

The shooting happened at approximately 11:20 a.m. Wednesday on West Butler Road. When officers arrived on scene, they found Robison holding a gun and Szabo with a single gunshot wound to the right shoulder area. Robison was taken into custody, and Szabo was transported to the hospital after being assessed and treated at the scene.

The altercation began in the Piedmont area, where Szabo — driving a white Dodge pickup truck — was allegedly driving erratically and tailgating Robison, who was driving a blue Tesla sedan. The altercation continued into Mauldin on West Butler Road, where Szabo allegedly got in front of Robison and slammed on his brakes, at which point Robison rear-ended him.

After the collision, Szabo allegedly got out of his pickup truck and walked toward the driver’s side of Robison’s vehicle; Robison then fired a gunshot at Szabo from inside his Tesla, hitting Szabo in the right shoulder area.

Robison is currently being held at the Greenville County Detention Center. Szabo’s condition is unknown at this time, but his injuries were deemed to be non-life threatening.

The investigation into this incident remains ongoing.

Give yourself one of the greatest gifts this holiday season

Call đź“ž 988 in an emergency.

Some tips from Prisma Health (and others)

GREENVILLE, S.C. — With the holiday season upon us, Prisma Health reminds community members to prioritize their own mental health during this time that can too often worsen feelings of stress and loneliness.

A survey by the National Alliance on Mental Illness found that 64% of individuals acknowledge being affected by the holiday blues, with 24% indicating a profound impact on their mental well-being. And nearly one in four adults globally have reported experiencing significant levels of loneliness, according to a survey conducted by Meta-Gallup – with young adults registering the highest rates.
Warning signs of loneliness, depression or more serious mental health concerns include the following:

Increased isolation: Be attentive to changes in behavior, particularly if someone who is usually extroverted becomes more isolated. Watch for signs of withdrawal from people they typically enjoy being around.
Sleep and appetite change: Pay close attention to alterations in sleep patterns or appetite, such as sleeping more or less and changes in eating habits.
Children’s emotional expression: Children, still learning to navigate their emotions, may exhibit increased irritability and anger.

“Taking care of your mental well-being is a priority, especially during the holidays. Acknowledge your feelings, give yourself permission to feel the way you do and remember that seeking help is a sign of strength,” said Dr. Casey Berson, a child and adolescent psychiatrist with Prisma Health. “It's crucial to tailor the holiday season to what feels right for you.”

Support could range from simple activities like getting coffee with a friend or seeking professional care, said Dr. Brittany Peters, a Prisma Health child and adolescent psychiatrist. “Your mental health matters and reaching out is a proactive step towards a healthier, happier holiday season – and the entire year. If you’re uncertain of how to seek professional help, talk with your primary care provider. They can help connect you with the resources you need.”

Here are their tips for navigating the holiday season:

Prioritize your own mental health: Find time to engage in activities that bring comfort and joy. Whether it's taking a peaceful walk, reading a favorite book or simply relaxing, self-care plays a crucial role in managing grief during the holiday season.

Freedom from tradition: There's no obligation to adhere strictly to holiday traditions, especially if they amplify feelings of sadness. Grant yourself the freedom to modify or skip certain traditions, allowing for a more flexible and emotionally manageable experience.

Manage holiday expectations: Set yourself a budget so the holiday season doesn’t lead to undue financial strain. Develop a plan that includes scheduling time for shopping, events and how to set realistic expectations for what can be accomplished during a busy time.

Acknowledge your feelings: It's important to recognize and accept the range of emotions that may surface during the holidays, particularly for those experiencing grief. Understand that it's normal to feel a mix of emotions, and it's OK to express them.

DMX has died, as a representative for his family tells Pitchfork. The rapper was hospitalized on April 2 after suffering an apparent drug overdose and subsequent heart attack at his home in White Plains, New York. He was 50 years old. DMX’s family issued the following statement via the press representative:

We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.

Born Earl Simmons in Mount Vernon, New York, DMX spent much of his early life in Yonkers, New York. He experienced a turbulent childhood, growing up in an abusive household and spending time in boys’ homes and, later, juvenile institutions. It was during his time at one of those boys’ homes that he started writing music, eventually linking up with producer Ready Ron.

DMX’s signature raspy growl—partially caused by a lifelong struggle with bronchial asthma—made his songs instantly recognizable. He broke into the wider music industry at large after The Source featured him in its “Unsigned Hype” column. The following year, he signed to Columbia’s Ruffhouse imprint, though he was dropped after a pair of singles. After some years of promo tracks and guest spots, he was signed to Def Jam, setting him up for his breakout projects: It’s Dark and Hell Is Hot and Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood, both of which arrived in 1998.

His 1999 album ...And Then There Was X went multi-platinum off the success of the singles “Party Up” and “What’s My Name.” In addition to his slew of hits, DMX also became a film star, appearing in Romeo Must Die (alongside Aaliyah), Exit Wounds, Cradle 2 the Grave, and more. His last album Undisputed was issued in 2012. He released his most recent single “Bain Iz Back” at the beginning of 2017.

DMX was open about his struggles with addiction, as well as the time he spent incarcerated. In 2018, he was sentenced to a year in prison for tax evasion. Following his release in early 2019, the rapper re-signed with Def Jam and was readying an album with multiple high profile features. In September of that year, he told GQ that he didn’t have any reservations about making new music. “The standard that I hold myself to is the same: Better than everything I hear,” he said.

Months after a landmark VERZUZ appearance with Snoop Dogg, DMX discussed addiction with rapper Talib Kweli in an emotional late 2020 interview on the latter’s podcast, People’s Party With Talib Kweli. “Drugs were a symptom of a bigger problem,” he told Kweli. “There were things that I went through in my childhood where I just blocked it out—but there’s only so much you can block out before you run out of space,” he said. “I really didn’t have anybody to talk to about it. So often talking about your problems is viewed as a sign of weakness. When it’s actually one of the bravest things you can do.”
