Justice4Ariel On Nov 23, 2024, Ariel’s life changed because someone decided to drive drunk. Her injuries are severe. (full name removed for post) part.

This was a business page that is no longer in use and was modified to keep everyone updated on her condition and progression of the case. This is a letter that I wrote the judge for the bond hearing. This will provide some detail to the terrifying night of November 23, 2024. On Saturday, November 23, 2024, I said goodbye to my 17-year-old daughter as I left for work at Greenville Memorial Hospital

as an ER nurse. She was doing her nails and planning to go to a friend’s house to watch Christmas movies and drink hot chocolate. I received a call at 2335 from her friend who was clearly shaken on the phone. She said Ariel was hit by a drunk driver, her dad was with her, and EMS was on the way. Mattie is a classmate and close friend of Ariel’s who summoned up a great amount of strength to keep me updated on Ariel’s state of consciousness and when she left the scene. I clocked out and waited by the ER bay until my heart was brought in on a stretcher as a trauma from a selfish act on S.J. Words cannot explain what it was like watching your child be worked up as a trauma. I will list her injuries so you can get an idea of the severity of her injuries which is why I am unable to be there today. Injuries include;
Her right and left femurs are broken
Left hip broken
Right and left arms broken
5 broken ribs
A pneumothorax which is where the lung collapses which later became a hemothorax because it started to collect blood. This ended up needing a chest tube. A liver laceration which required her to go to the operating room to evaluate the extent of the injury, for which she still has a JP drain placed for the collection of fluid and blood. In total, she has had 5 surgeries, multiple invasive procedures, and countless radiology scans. Ariel will still need more during her ICU course. On top of everything else, Ariel was diagnosed with diffuse axonal injury which is a severe traumatic brain injury that causes shearing or tearing of the brain’s nerve fibers, as well as a fat embolism in her brain that is caused by the multiple breaks to her body. Unfortunately, we won’t know her long term prognosis for up to two years from now. My daughter’s broken bones will heal, however her brain may not. She is unresponsive and on a ventilator to keep her breathing due to the severity of her injuries. Today, she is going back to the OR for a tracheostomy and a feeding tube placement. I plead with you not to allow this woman to be released and potentially end another child’s life. She has three children of her own and still made the decision to get behind the wheel not knowing who’s life she would endanger. My daughter is a senior and is dual enrolled in a mechatronics program. She is one of the smartest and kind people that I know. Her infectious laugh and bubbly personality may never return. Her bright future was ripped from her in a split second. My worst nightmare happened that night and that may have been the last time I ever heard her tell me she loved me. Thank you,
Tabitha

After Ariel had her PEG tube and tracheostomy placed, her PEG became displaced, and her abdomen was full of tube feeds and medications. She was rushed to emergency surgery where they had to do an open abdominal surgery and wash her out. She became septic and it was another terrifying event to this nightmare. She continued to have fevers and several infections. It felt like she kept meeting hurdles to her healing. As of 01/03/25, which is the date I am adding this information she is healing. She is truly a MIRACLE and GIFT from God. Over the past week in a half, she has progressed in an amazing and awing way. Our God is AWESOME and He is ABLE to heal! We are on track to go to rehab at Craig Hospital in Colorado on Jan. 6th provided we do not have any additional setbacks.

Happy Sunday Everyone! I could have listened to a live service this morning but Jesus knows what I need and led me to this message. In case the link doesn’t work, it was called from pain to purpose. Let me tell you… It hit home! We are still working through the pain and have yet to figure out our purpose. 💕

I forced Ariel outside for a little vitamin D.
These rocks reminded me of outlander ☺️

We relaxed in the room for the rest of the day. I almost have Ariel’s hair detangled 🥴 I recommended shaving it 🫣
My nap helped 🙌🏼
Ariel’s phone is now functioning. We were in apple jail because she couldn’t remember her iCloud password. Let me tell you… the help someone reset does not work as suggested 🙄 so 3 weeks later and multiple conversations with Apple she finally has her stuff back on her phone.

I made myself a registry list at your urging. It has some items that I like or would like to try. I will have to buy luggage before we fly home so I will probably add that later if anyone wants to help with that. 🤗 I will add my link and Ariel’s below because some people asked me where her link was. Thank you everyone for spoiling us. We appreciate your kindness and love 💕

It is snowing here! Surprise surprise 😏🤨 Thankfully the canine companions brought the puppies despite the weather 🙌🏼 I am a little bummed that we can’t get out today 😩

Ariel’s trach site is not healing very well so she has an ENT consult. It won’t heal because she talks too much! 😂 The negative pressure keeps it open. I bet none of her past or or teachers would have guessed 🤣🤣🤣

My morning hasn’t been the greatest since I woke up with a headache and my coffee machine broke. I wrote Keurig since I have had it for less than a week. Little things that feel normal are a comfort in this time and I possibly over reacted when I couldn’t have my coffee this morning 🤦🏻‍♀️

Many of you have asked to spoil me but honestly, I don’t really need anything. I did put a blanket for myself on Ariel’s registry because I think it might be a little more comfortable sleeping without the hospital blankets. I’m going to take a nap if this child will let me. 💕
Thank you for your prayers and encouragement 💗

Mornings remain to be hard for Ariel. There will be puppies here tomorrow morning so I have a feeling tomorrow will be a great morning for her 😊
I ventured out and rode the shuttle to the store today. There were some random geese hissing at me. 😆 Then I took Ariel to Starbucks so she could get a nap 😂

Today started out rough! Ariel cried a bunch this morning. Then she got herself together and went to BH and PT. She had her support dogs watching.
We had a long lunch hour so we walked to the local coffee shop and cafe.
Then she had recreational therapy and speech therapy with Timmy (the dog). He gave her extra love 💕

Ariel is progressing by leaps and bounds physically and healing neurologically daily. I have added the Craig flier to show where the neuro deficits are how they affect function.
Ariel was diagnosed with a severe traumatic brain injury. DAI and fat emboli syndrome. They believe she had a combination of the two injuries. Testing has indicated Ariel’s parietal lobe, temporal lobe, and frontal lobe has been affected. I’m so thankful my girl is still here with me and pray daily that she will heal completely. God is a miracle worker and He has shown us his love and mercy. 💕

Ariel had a busy day but mumsy stepped away a bit more. I feel better today. I wish I could say it’s because I slept better. 😬I even took a walk while she went to school. Ariel opened a few more gifts that came. Thank you to everyone that has showered us with love and support 💕

It’s been a day! Sleeping beauty fell asleep around 630 tonight. She had a CT because there is some question regarding her PEG tube site and if IR will have to drain anything if there is still fluid accumulation. No answers as of yet.

She had her pet assisted PT and OT session 🐾

I am trying to keep up and make decisions. There is a lot of STUFF to deal with since she just turned 18. I am also trying to make house decisions for modifications that may be needed at home. Thankfully my family is handling all of the work. I’m still not feeling well and I found out the PA I normally would see at home has left the practice. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I will be following Ariel’s example and head to bed soon. 😴💕
Thank you for all of the words of encouragement and prayers! I need them.

This is a video from yesterday! Ariel was fitted for another wheelchair and loves the freedom. 💕 If she has to go home with one her request of pink has been made 😊
I am struggling physically, mentally, and emotionally this week. We have lots of new consults this week. Hopefully I will have some fun pics later since Ariel has animal assisted therapy again 🐾💕

We have come a long way baby! 💕🙌🏼This pic was taken on Nov. 28th. This was after I was told Ariel had a severe brain injury and all we could do is provide supportive care. I literally felt my heart breaking. 💔
I didn’t want to do life without my girl!

As I read my devotions this morning I was reminded of God’s plan. He shows us the way and although He does not promise a life without trials, He promises to be with us through them. The words in this devotion say it better than I can…Faith in God is the dynamite needed to cause the mountains in our lives to crumble because faith is powerfully explosive in the face of obstacles.God knows about every mountain that stands in your way. He knows how to destroy your mountains and give you peace of mind.Put your faith in God and watch Him turn the tallest mountain in your life into a stepping stone toward your blessing.

They did find an abscess starting at Ariel’s PEG tube site so they placed an IV and started her on IV antibiotics. I have no doubt that it will be knocked out quickly. She is healing so well. I’m not feeling the greatest today so I am thankful it is a day of rest.
Have a blessed Sunday 💕

01/18/2025

I forgot to mention yesterday that Ariel did get her PEG tube out 🙌🏼 She had some purulent drainage and we are thinking she had a small abscess which is why it was hurting her so much. She is heading for an ultrasound in a few minutes. I am truly in awe at how she has managed her pain. Her biggest pain issue is the neuropathy in her left foot. Everything else is managed well with pain meds.
Side note… I use a business suite app for this page because it was initially a small business so I am limited on posts with pics and videos. It’s not a big deal but that is the reason I had to do multiple posts with pics yesterday.
📣I also did not realize I had messages turned off. If you sent me a message I probably did not get it or it’s still sitting in the inbox. I did read a couple and responded but just to let you know I wasn’t intentionally ignoring the messages.. 🥴 I didn’t know

It’s snowing here and pretty 💕

It’s Ariel’s 18th Birthday today 🎉

She opened a few gifts this morning and we will have more pics later. 💕

I will try to get a video of the Venmo amount reveal later today. Anyone that still wants to add to her Venmo it’s Ariel-Terhune and has a pic of her white dog.

It’s been a busy day. I may have had a small breakdown tonight 😭
Ariel was able to get her wound vac off and should be able to get her PEG tube removed tomorrow 🙌🏼
I worked on getting all of the EEG goo out of her hair and now she is working on her favorite hobby with all the gifts you all provided. 💅🫶🏼💕

01/16/2025

Here is the video of her rolling around 🦽
She is ready to go 🦽💨
Ignore the EEG hair. She had just gotten the stickers and electrodes removed.
I always forget that I can’t post the videos and pics at the same time.

Ariel’s Birthday $ 🎉
Venmo is Ariel-Terhune and mine is https://venmo.com/u/TKT17

Our room is filling up with gifts and I’m not sure how we are going to get everything home. This is a great problem to have 💕 Several of you have asked about sending gifts and needs. We have everything that we need. We do like to order DoorDash to take a break from hospital food and it’s about time for my PTO to run out so if you want to contribute to Venmo or the Go fund me those links are also on this page.

Ariel made dog cookies today🐾
She was also fitted for a new wheelchair to start working in so she can wheel herself around. Her speech therapist let her borrow her dog Debbie’s photo for PT motivation 🐾💕
