No better way to bring in #mpamonday than a stage from @ettsgunrange falling steel match that I didn’t completely botch 😃! Felt good through the first two positions so got a bit (a lot) ahead of myself on the final position and pushed for more speed🥲. Mistakes were made and lessons were learned! I’m still working on getting that first shot out faster and cutting down wasted energy with my draw and reload. My instructors are always training which means I’m always training. I’m nowhere near where I want to be, but I’m taking the steps EVERY WEEK to get there through proper training.

Prepped vs Practical

90% of the time in classes I run from concealment, the other 10% I run from a outer belt system. Our students are the opposite and there isn’t a problem with that, but having developed skills when needed at the time of crisis is vital. When we tell students to stand by they immediately stage their hands near their firearms with the intent of getting a super fast draw.
In completion shooting prepped hands makes sense based of the stage design, but for everyday carry that’s Not “Practical”. The reason why is you never know what you will be doing with your hands at the time of stimulus. So we teach “Busy 🙌 “ , meaning having your hands occupied or placed in everyday positions we find ourself (holding a cell phone, holding hands, carrying groceries, arms crossed, etc. This programs the procedural memory to react without any conscious thought. This allows the brain the put conscious focus elsewhere, like your surroundings etc. understanding your body’s reaction is critical in self realization, awareness, and development.
There’s a place and time for all types of drills, so the next time you run your drills try running them from concealment switching up hand positions and let’s know what you think. You can thank me later.
