By Kenny Brown It's been nearly ten years since I first heard Nothing More. The song 'Jenny' came on a channel I was listening to. Like so many other people including myself who've had "Jenny's" in our lives, the emotional words of addiction and self destruction sung by vocalist Jonny Hawkins immediately overwhelmed my heart. Diving into everything else Nothing More had to offer I felt an intense relatable connection to the band....

By Kenny Brown Dethklok, along with Dragonforce and Necrogoblikon, stopped by Charlotte NC on their current 'Mutilation on a Spring Night' tour. Necrogoblikon opened the show with a high energy theatrical performance that got the crowd moving right from the get-go. Dragonforce performed second with some of the most technical intense musicianship I've ever witnessed live. Dethklok headlined the show playing all of the crowd favorites from Metalocalypse and more....

Photos and Writing by Kenny Brown I'll just start by saying I've been a huge TOOL fan for many years. I've been lucky enough to catch them live quite a few times over those years. The first time was nearly 30 years ago, November 16 1996 at The Garage in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was a small club, maybe a couple hundred people....

Photos and Writing by Dillon Reesor New Brookland Tavern has seen a lot of Justin Osborne lately. January 17th marks the third show in three weeks, following a pair of reunion shows from Sequoyah Prep School to send off the iconic old New Brookland building and to christen their new location in 5 Points. This time around was a markedly different, more intimate experience featuring three musicians performing individual (mostly) acoustic sets....

Photos and Writing by Kyle Ostrander On a cold winter Monday night, Weakened Friends brought their electric energy to the stage at The Meadows in NYC. The band, who are known for their catchy songs and enthusiastic live performances, delivered a show the crowd certainly won’t soon forget. The set was filled with cuts from across the band’s catalog, including “Main Bitch”, “Blue Again”, “Spew”, and their latest single “Awkward”....

Photos and Writing by Kenny Brown Chevelle and Three Days Grace have been on the road across the U.S. for the past five weeks on a co-headlining tour. The two bands alternated as headliner at every stop throughout the tour, each performing a full 75 minute set. October 12 the two bands hit Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre in Charlotte, NC. I've been lucky enough to catch both bands many times over the years, and in my opinion this was the best performance I've ever seen from either of them....

Photos and Writing by Bailey Wray This was my first 18+ show, and it was a good one. The show was a good mix between Alternative/Grunge/Art Punk. Photos and Writing by Kyle Ostrander This past weekend, Bastardane and OTTTO began their co-headline tour with a show at NYC’s Gramercy Theater. Taking the stage first were OTTTO, featuring Tye Trujillo (son of Metallica’s Rob Trujillo) on bass. The band’s heavy sound was perfectly juxtaposed by beautiful full-band vocal harmonies that would pop up in their songs. The crowd was incredibly attentive and receptive during the band’s entire set, especially during an impressive mid-set bass solo, which was shortly followed by a shredding finger-tapping guitar solo....

Photos and Writing by Kenny Brown This was THE show. Tiff Tantrum of No Anger Control and Chris Deitz of Laniidae are two of my favorite vocalists in the Charlotte scene.
