I am grateful to have my mom and to be a mom, but my heart often goes to those who lost their mother's or children to death, the system, the streets or the Mother's actions that their children decided not to be a part of their lives. This is a tough pill to swallow and I understand because at one point my child and myself were estranged.

Did you know watermelon was used as a form of control and amusement for the slave masters. They would often cut open the ripe 🍉 to see the slave children run to retrieve their pieces and laugh at them as the juice ran down their faces. Emancipation soon crushed that control and it turned to anger. The whites felt that blacks were flaunting their new found freedom in their faces by growing, selling and enjoying watermelon in the public square to mock them. Some white refused to eat watermelon at this time, because they felt it was free negro's food. Of course, the damn media play their role through the newspaper. 1869 Frank Leslie's Illustrated newspaper published perhaps the first caricature of blacks reveling in eating watermelon. By the early 20th century, the watermelon stereotype was everywhere—potholders, paperweights, sheet music, salt-and-pepper shakers. By the 20's watermelon had become a culture symbol. We all know that culture symbols shapes how we see the world and the people in it. This seems relatively stupid because it was a piece of fruit, but this fruit represented the extent that some people will go to keep control over another group of people. Sounds like mental warfare to me, since they no longer own the black's bodies. The blacks saw watermelon as a means of support to care for their families and became the bunt of a joke for wanting to prosper. Until this day watermelon is still associated with black people and that leaves a nasty taste in our mouths. I recall the first time I ever came under this ridicule. I was a grown woman and this white woman I worked with called me Watermelon Drea and my sister Fried chicken nesha, that did not go well to say.

Hello,
I am Andrea Harper the anchor for Yada's Healing House. Yada's Healing House was birthed out the best of times and the worst of times. My best friend and myself were supposed to co-host a podcast on holistic spiritual practices that promote healthy communication, healing, a vibrant s*x life, looking at health as wealth and securing the bag. Unfortunately, my bestie passed Christmas Eve of 2022, unexpectedly. This is my way of healing, follow me as I face my fears and make my bestie proud.
Yadda was a healer that always questioned her purpose, not knowing it was merely to be alive and just be her. I hope you tune in and experience some passionate healers, practitioners, shamans and so much more. I hope this podcast aspires you to heal outside of the norm, avoid some pitfalls and to have the courage to reach your greatest potential.
