I'm giving you some music you just don’t get to hear on the radio much any more, along with some of the best music being made today. The radio industry named the format AOR, which stood for album oriented rock. Critics of the format said AOR stood for “any old record” though, because they couldn

't wrap their heads around staying away from the hits and digging deeper into album cuts from the rock and psychedelic acts of the 60s and 70s. The Splendid Turntable is not affiliated with a certain public radio program with a similar name. That said, this program does focus on the culture, the history, the backstories and the deeper meanings that come together every time people sit down to enjoy music.

1) The Splendid Turntable airs Mon, Mar 31, 8-10am EDT with album rock radio the way it used to be before the corporate suits told everybody to play the same tired classic rock songs until the end of time. We’ll feature vintage music from Glass Moon, Son Seals, Focus, Nazareth, Free, Donovan, and more. Plus new releases from Dave Mason, Helene Cronin, Sean Chambers, Japanese Breakfast and Ripe, just to name a few.

2) The Studebaker Collection airs Tue, Apr 1, 10am-noon with another ALL-BLUES show – no fooling – with tunes from Popa Chubby, Muddy Waters, Etta James, Bobby “Blue” Bland, Ray Charles, ZZ Hill, Buddy Guy, Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee, Albert Collins and more.
