Some chimneys are extremely high. This is where the Drone comes in as a very useful tool during a home inspection. We offer aerial photography as a separate service if you are looking to only check out roofing or your chimney . This chimney was generally in good shape except for the flue and cap.
The bottom flue in the picture wasn't used anymore. It was deteriorated to the point that the flue was below the top surface of the cap and was permitting rainwater to enter the chimney. Repairing the top cap and sealing off the old flue will help from further deterioration and a major expense down the road. Obviously a rain cap for the fireplace flue would also be an improvement .
