February is Black History Month and each day the Black Impact Collaborative will highlight a Local Black History Fact. Today we highlight Ms. Della Marie Levi.

Della Marie Levi is the owner of the first Black, Women owned record store in Grand Rapids, Della Soul Records. Della is driven by her lifelong passion for music and inspired by her father’s vinyl record collection. Della is also an entrepreneur who has founded her own accessory line, Rock Candy Earrings & Things, as well as Dream Big Sister Circle and the Dream Big Fair. Today, I had the honor of DJing an outdoor bbq. I was stationed on the front porch. Unc, a neighbor that lives across the street, grabbed a chair from inside of his house and rocked with DJ Della Soul the entire time! He even got up and danced a few times. He came over after the event and shared that the playlist was amazing and that he had a good time. Today, this brought me so much joy. 🥰

Today, I was listening to one of my playlists. Ro James’ Permission was followed by John Legend’s Green Light…whoa!!! 🤯 DJs hear music differently and our antennas raise when two songs that we hear “click.” I texted my favorite DJ/mentor and told him about the two songs and to stay tuned… Y’all!!! Combining a slow and fast song is pure art. DJs don’t just play music, we create a continuous soundscape of magic! DJ Della Soul ❤️

I like this version more than the original. And it features the incomparable, Roy Ayers. #Badu DJ Della Soul Saturday night vibes. ❤️

So grateful. Today, I FINALLY set up my second set of DJ equipment. Why do I have two sets? One for home (that stays set up for practice, listening, and events at my home) and the other for gigs. This will make life forDJ Della Soul so much easier as my gig equipment stays packed and ready to travel! I am being booked for and taking more gigs and one thing I am always going to do is invest in and bet on me. #SheReady Asé. 🙏🏾🤞🏾❤️
