Martin Phillipps was the Chills. He was the singer, songwriter, and brilliantly eccentric lyricist behind one of New Zealand’s most remarkable musical exports. He died this past week at the age of 61.

My friends in Royal Scene have a brilliant new six song EP out today. I am proud to have had a very small hand in the launch of this thing as it's streaming now everywhere on Phonophore Records.

I wrote a piece about my gradual friendship with Royal Scenester Scott Owens and how I became involved in helping release this set of songs after having been nothing more than a fanboy for Scott and his work through the decades.

It's a story of fortitude, adaptability, and the power of what we can do when we collaborate. Thanks so much to Scott and to Marc, Randy, Blair and Tim for trusting me with their great work.

A brand new tour recap is up now at What Am I Making. This one features a deep dive into my time in southern Mississippi where I drove the freedom trail, paid tribute to a trio of martyrs to the cause, filled up on local seafood, and was treated to some good old fashioned southern charm.
