Couple more wreaths in the shop. The one on the left with the angel is for 1:6 scale or fashion doll scale. The one on the right is 1:12 scale, the most commonly used scale for dollhouses. I'll keep working on wreaths for the month of October and then I have some plans for a new theme for November and December. Stay tuned...

Finished the bird cage makeover. Painting this thing really drove my eyes crazy! I didn't film the process because, to be honest, it was very annoying and awkward all the way through. Trying to film it would have been a bridge too far! I uttered a lot of four letter words trying to get those bead caps with the food and water into place. The food is a mixture of herbs and spices from my kitchen. Creating water is a technique I will have to learn at some point, and when I do I will probably replace the water dish so it looks more realistic. I thought the newspaper lining the bottom was a fun touch. All in all, I'm pretty pleased with this makeover.

When it became obvious that our daughter would be staying in Chicago for good, I consoled myself by turning her bedroom into my office and workshop. (Sorry, Aislinn!). It took me an embarrassingly long time to hang my aunt's paintings, but here they are on display as they deserve, FINALLY! This is one of the miniatures my daughter, Diana, gave me for my birthday last year. Every time she sees it she says she wishes she had bought it in a different color. So today I decided to paint it. This one made my eyes cross, even with my magnifying light AND cheater glasses. I'm planning on a few more details, so stay tuned to see if I can make this work.

Been away from this for several days, but I'm back in my workshop and feeling proud of my latest creation. The clock face works and keeps real time! My inspiration was a life size long case clock I saw for sale on a shopping site and Julie Warren's tutorial for a miniature grandfather clock.

My day job (well the one I get paid for, anyway) is teaching piano. Now and then I have a week when half of my students are out with whatever virus or plague is racing through the area. Used to be that only happened in winter. Now it happens any time of year - like mid July. Seemed like a good time to come up with my latest miniature creation. I made a trunk for my dollhouse a while ago and decided I had to make at least one for the shop, so here it is. this is 1:12 scale. I'm thinking about making a 1:6 scale trunk as well. There is always a backstory playing in my mind when I'm working on my dollhouse or building miniatures. This trunk has been places and seen some things. It's scuffed and battered, but still going strung. I like to think about how things get worn over time, so I concentrated on wearing down the corners, scuffing up the flocked paper lining inside, wearing down some of the travel stickers and scuffing the trunk a little where someone's shoes might repeatedly hit it when packing and unpacking, or the latch and buckles might wear into the wood. Who knew it would be so much work to make something look used!
