This could make sense. If you didn't want them trying to drown you, especially, start them on a series, like the Wheel of Time or The Boxcar Children or Hardy Boys, or the Doctor Who series (which has a whopping 472 titles in it!).

Today, August 23 2024, is the official release date for Stephen Brooke’s novel THE CITY AND THE SWORD. This is a tale of Qala the Pirate Queen when she was a girl—an origin story, if you will. Although not intended as a Young Adult title, it could certainly be seen as one.
