Gordon native Sergeant Jacob Downing graduated from a US Army Military Intelligence Analyst course in Fort Huachuca, Arizona and was joined by his father, US Army LTC (retired) Scott Downing. See the story in this week's issue of the SCJS!

On July 12, 2024 at Ft. Huachuca, Ariz., SGT Jacob Downing graduated from the US Army Military Intelligence Analyst course. SGT Downing is a 2011 graduate from Gordon-Rushville High School and is married to the former Megan Nealy, also a 2011 graduate of GRHS.

Oh man, there was dirt, sheep, and kiddos all over McGinley Arena last night! The Mutton Bustin' event at the Sheridan County Fair & Rodeo, is always a good time and the SCJS loves to cover it. By Tessa Hurlburt One thing to count on in Gordon on July 4 (besides fireworks!) is the Wade Ginkens Memorial 4k on the 4th. The race was started by Roberta Jacobson in 2003.

Gordon resident Jordan Paul, along with his son Everett, were chosen as the winners of our Best Fathers Day Moments promotion. Jordan chose to receive a gift certificate from Grocery Mart. Grocery Mart owner Tony Meyer, along with SCJS Managing Editor Scott Bidroski, presented Jordan with his gift certificate today. Two student-athletes made the trip to Omaha for Nebraska State Track Meet and brought home THREE medals! Read the full story and see photos in this week's issue of the SCJS.

By Scott Bidroski The dynamic duo of seniors on the Gordon-Rushville Track & Field team made waves in Omaha this past weekend. Seniors Tyrah American Horse and McKinley Grover each medaled in their qualified events, scoring 11 team points and notching their names into the history books.

Yesterday, two Mustangs punched their ticket to the NSAA State Track Meet in the Class C-9 District held in Bayard. For the fourth time in both of their careers, McKinley Grover and Tyrah American Horse are headed to Omaha! American Horse qualified in the 1600 and Grover got the nod in both the Shot Put and Discus events. Congratulations to you both from the Sheridan County Journal Star!

Another track meet is in the books for the Gordon-Rushville Mustang team and even though the temps were a bit chilly, the team saw a plethora of top performances. The team traveled to Chadron High School for the annual Chadron Twilight meet on Friday, April 19.

The Hay Springs Hawks made the quick 20 mile trip to Chadron High School on Friday, April 19 for the Chadron Twilight Track Meet. Senior Gage Mintken was the main culprit on the day, securing a gold medal in all four events he was entered into.
