Come celebrate last year's awesome free flight accomplishments and kick this season off over food and drinks with your friends!

The first 3 pilots to land at the event between 6-7pm win a free retrieve day from XC Chase Service! Be sure to pick up your RMHPA member sticker for your helmet too. (Please have your USHPA member number handy for verification.) We'll kick things off officially at 7pm with opening remarks, announcements, and will head right into announcing the 2020 award winners - there are some great prizes so don't forget to complete the nomination form! Tacos (including a tasty veg option!) and drinks will be provided, and once the winners are announced we encourage you to eat, drink, enjoy the music, meet some new pilots and your RMHPA board members, and hang out with your friends into the night!

*Boulder Trail Maintenance Day*
Saturday, May 8th

Time to take care of our trail to launch! Please consider signing up for a time slot if you're in town, especially if you haven't helped in the past, it's really rewarding to have a hand in the longevity of the trail you hike to fly! There are a few spaces left in the AM shift and a good number of spaces left in the PM shift. In the past we made quick work with the trail maintenance and were allowed a bonus round cleaning up the rocks and snags on launch đź‘Ť. Let's have another great turnout this season to remind OSMP how much we love our site. Thanks for being a part of this great community!

Robin Hastings has been a fixture in the US Hang Gliding community for over 40 years. His articles have been published in USHPA magazine and elsewhere. Always willing to mentor and assist new pilots, he selflessly provided rides to the Dry Canyon launch for the last 30 years, destroying at least one 4x4 truck on the terrible road. Friend to hangies and baggies alike, he has served in multiple capacities in the Rio Grande Soaring Association, where he is currently Secretary.

In addition to be being an expert HG pilot with over 5000 flights, he as an accomplished amateur astronomer, physicist and gymnast.

He is now in the fight of his life and needs our help! In late September 2020, he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that has spread to his liver. He is only 66 years old, in great shape other than this malady, and has many years of flying ahead if we can help him beat this. As you all know, pancreatic cancer is aggressive so there is no time to waste.

I have known him since 2015 when I was a green beginner paraglider pilot. We fly together as often as possible. I am also an officer in the RGSA. I'm starting this fundraiser for him because he is too proud to ask for help. Let's all pitch in and help give him a fighting chance and relieve some of the financial burden his family is facing.

I'm sure he will appreciate encouragement and support. He is active on US Hawks, and you can reach him there

PSA from the locals at Reeder Mesa, for those not in the Telegram chats...

“Hello again! Well in my last post I reiterated the REEDER MESA protocol that the land owners have approved (I will post that as a comment to this). Well, pilots are not following this and are helping themselves to crossing private property to try to access the site. The land owner is furious and the local pilot community is trying to setup a meeting with the landowner to smooth things over... again. The local pilots have cultivated respectful relationships with the landowners. We are trying to keep it open for all pilots by creating protocols that satisfy the land owners boundaries for sharing their property. In reality who ever chooses to trespass is ONLY risking access to Reeder Mesa for visiting pilots!

Please, police each other and don’t let your buddy fly Reeder and/or convince you to go now. Local pilots are NOT flying Reeder behind your back! We have chosen to respect the landowners and stoped caravanning visiting pilots until the covid threat lessens and we can carpool again. The other day at Otto’s I had 22 pilots eager for me to lead them into Reeder. We would have been a caravan of at least 16 cars. This is why we have chosen to not fly there for now. The good news: hike-in access will be an option starting May 1st. Again, if you know who is poaching please ask them to consider the consequences and remember that a hike-in option is a week away! If you need help or have questions please contact me!” - Lukas Hill
