🚨 Don’t miss the latest episode of The Color of Light - Susan Erony! 🚨 This episode explores the powerful work of Susan Erony, an artist who has focused on some of the most difficult and painful subject matter of the last hundred years - the Russian Pogroms, the Holocaust, the missing and disappeared Chileans. She delivers this content within beauty; each piece is a beautiful object with a message for humanity underneath. The beauty, Erony says, is protective. “Beauty is about goodness.”

We are thrilled to announce our collaboration with Rockport Music for Writing Our Musical History, an initiative that celebrates local heritage through the voices of our youth. This project brought together high school students from Rockport, Gloucester, Manchester-Essex, and Beverly to create original songs inspired by meaningful places in their hometowns - Beverly (The Cabot), Manchester-Essex (Tuck's Point), Gloucester (The Fisherman's Wives Statue), and Rockport (Bearskin Neck).

Under the expert guidance of teaching artist Alexandra Grace, students composed lyrics, melodies, and harmonies, crafting unique musical narratives that reframed history as a living, evolving story. The songs culminated in live performances at the Shalin Liu Performance Center and the students’ chosen inspiration sites.

This project was made possible in part through the support of the Essex County Community Foundation and the Creative County Initiative.
