There's always a lot going on at our Converse County libraries in Glenrock and Douglas. Check out below to see what YOU may be interested in!
By Tamara Lehner, CCL Adult Programs Director
Those of us at your Converse County libraries hope you all stayed warm and safe during the cold spell! We can’t believe January is almost over, but there are still some awesome events coming up, so we want to be sure you know about them!
HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR’S STORY
We are thrilled to be hosting survivor Ben Lesser in a special Zoom event on Jan. 25 at 1 p.m. to honor National Holocaust Remembrance Day and the 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz, which is on Monday, Jan. 27. Please help us honor this brave gentleman, who, along with his sister, were the only ones from their family to live. Ben survived three death camps before he was liberated, and lived to emigrate to the United States. He founded the Zachor (Remember) Foundation (www.zachorfoundation.org) to educate people, and to promote love and compassion.Interested parties may watch the Zoom event from home or may come to their CCL and watch the presentation with a group.
Either way, please register with us in advance at the information at the end of this Library News. Please don’t miss this important event about a miraculous survival in the face of horrific conditions, and his message of love and acceptance. These precious survivors are few and far between these days!
ADULT CRAFT
In other news, we have a fun adult craft coming up on Thursday, Jan. 23 at the CCL Douglas from 6-8 p.m. This free adult craft class will demonstrate how to create a charming winter snowman out of wine corks. Please sign up in advance.
LOVE LOCAL VALENTINE FESTIVAL
It’s almost time for the return of the Love Local Valentine Festival in Glenrock!
This year the CCL has partnered with Elevate Glenrock for a three day event, running from Friday, Jan. 31 through Sunday, Feb. 2!
The vendor fair has expanded to three days and will be held at the Rec Center. Meanwhile, the Glenrock Library, 307 Artisans and other businesses around town will have themed activities and events.
At the library, we will have crafts and take-and-make projects, as well as kids activities such as a “Dino and Me Valentine Tea” at 1 p.m. All ages will enjoy treats, games and more. Bring your favorite stuffed or toy dinosaur with you for the fun! Please sign up in advance.
MORE FUN
There will be more Valentine fun in the upcoming weeks, including an adult Valentine Fortune Cookie Craft on Feb. 4 in Glenrock, and Feb. 6 in Douglas, and an adult “Galentine Tea” for girlfriends on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 11 a.m. in Glenrock, and at 3 p.m. in Douglas. Do sign up in advance, please.
KIDS’ SCIENCE ZONE
Meanwhile, don’t miss the traveling Children’s Science Zone exhibit at the CCL Douglas through the middle of February, with a fun Circuit activity and a rocket launcher! These exhibits go around the state, and we have waited months to host it, so you’ll want to catch it while it’s here.
