John Reyes aka DJ JohnDoe has been rocking the tables since he was 12 years old. Ever since he was a child he was always surrounded by music. Whether it was break dancing or playing key board, John was always exploring his musical talent at an early age. Being the only child, but with a family history of musical talent, John is a completely self-taught DJ. On his 15th Birthday his father purchased him two 1200’s and a GLI PMX 9000. The first record he bought was “Bango” from Mainline Records and from there his journey began.
John started playing at house parties and High Schools. His first Club Gig was at Club Avanti in Bayside Queens, his hometown. From there John moved on into the city clubs. Through out the 1990’s, John was doing things most cats at his age had only dreamed of. From playing at hookie jams to spinning along side some of NYC’S hottest deejays like Funkmaster Flex and Kid Capri to Roger Sanchez and Dj Red Alert at clubs like Homebase, Redzone, Latin Quarter and Café Con Leche, just to name a few. If it was a well named spot, he had the opportunity not only to play at these events but to work next to some of the best deejays in the world.
Wanting to expand his knowledge of the industry, John moved thru the scene with a purpose. His black book was beginning to fill. He gained an interest in the most basics like graphic design for flyers to promoting and throwing his own events. He then became an A&R for an independent record label. He was a production manager for a CD and Cassette manufacture. He also worked as a manger and cooridnator for a latin music magazine. He was also a GM for a well respected Pro Audio and Lighting company. John then took his creative talent and began learning the process of music production, working out of a small studio in Washington Heights. Not to mention, John attended Queens Broadcasting Center and received a degree for radio broadcasting and sound editing. Most kids played a sport, but the music industry was John’s hobby of choice.
“I was never a mixed tape DJ, there’s nothing like playing live for a crowd, what you do on tape can always be altered, subtracted or fixed, what you do live is just that”.
