Pride in Peril: A Year of Cancelled Celebrations
Multiple pride events have been canceled this year.
1. Corporate Sponsorships Disappear in the U.S.
In 2025, major Pride events—from San Francisco to New York City—are grappling with steep budget shortfalls. Anheuser-Busch, Comcast, Nissan, Diageo, PepsiCo, and others have pulled back or completely dropped out of supporting Pride festivals, citing economic strain and political pressure  .
2. Silenced Pride at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
A series of Pride Month events, part of the “Tapestry of Pride” at the Kennedy Center, were abruptly canceled following leadership changes and a shift in direction after President Trump took the helm of the board. Organizers were left without communication, rearranging performances elsewhere  .
3. Tel Aviv Pride: Security Takes Priority
Authorities in Tel Aviv called off the annual Pride Parade amid growing geopolitical tensions and concerns about instability in the region  .
4. Hungary Cracks Down, Pride Responds
On March 18, Hungary passed a law effectively banning Pride events. But defiance triumphed: on June 28, Budapest still held its Pride march, drawing between 100,000 and 200,000 participants. Organizers and attendees risked fines or legal repercussions, and the city’s mayor was recently questioned by police for his role  .
5. Local Cancellations and Economic Strains
• The “Pride Season Kickoff” in Boise, Idaho, planned for June 6, was canceled due to poor ticket sales .
• A Pride event in Memphis was canceled following severe weather conditions—highlighting how unexpected factors can derail community celebrations
