Last November, the Gladewater Chamber of Commerce dynamo told council members about developing plans to replace downtown’s community tree in time for Christmas 2024. She quickly netted a $15,000 commitment from the city to fuel fundraising for the towering decoration.

Another year-to-year decrease in Gladewater’s monthly sales tax allocation from the state isn’t likely to set anyone to trembling at City Hall – as of August, the city’s coffers are already at $1.15 million in collections for the year, about two months ahead of schedule.
It was glad news for council members last week in a special budget workshop for Fiscal Year 2024-2025. Gains in excess of the city’s conservative sales tax estimate are an...

Brian Smith feels a bit handcuffed when he’s sidelined watching someone else do the work – Gladewater’s Public Works director would much rather be the one wielding the chainsaw at a downed tree or the shovel in the hole at a water leak.
