Meet Your Community

Meet Your Community A community based social media magazine: We want to create that ‘sense of community’. Where it all began:

The .community idea. It immediately got my attention.

I was drinking my tea watching TV one evening. It was announced that the .community domain names were to be released. Having owned the Community Shopper Magazine for several years, it seem like a no brainer to take the magazine online. The new domains would give me access to areas where I could not get a printed version. I started buying them immediately. The idea was simple build something local

centric. Something which featured local characters – the people who live work and make the city what it is. Those who make you smile. Recognized people’s efforts. Spotlight business. Provided links to helplines. I wanted to use local talent to help me with this dream. That was a few years ago. Life took over. Weddings, funerals, running 2 print magazines and helping with my husband’s business, not to mention all the charity events I support. Everything was so time consuming. My idea ended up on the back burner. The .community family becomes a reality. I was sitting at a networking meeting in Gig Harbor when my phone dinged. I checked it as the meeting was ending. It was an email message telling me my .community domains were about to expire. At this point I owned 6. Having coffee with Robert at Tactical Social Media, I explained to him my dream and I might let it go. I didn’t have the time or talent to get things started. He looked at me and simply said “Are you stupid?”

Let me set the record straight. Robert and I are good friends (and he works on my online stuff). We talked and talked and talked……… after about 2 hours, my head was spinning. When we were done, we had the framework for my idea created and knew people with the talent to help put this together. The .community family was on its way, no longer an idea. And it has become more than I expected. Hello Lacey, WA. Why did we choose to launch with Lacey.community? Going to my current contacts in Gig Harbor and Tacoma would not be a real test of viability. I know almost no one in Lacey. If we could make this work in Lacey, with only limited connections, we could make it work everywhere. It seemed like a great idea.
