Thanksgiving has come and gone, and the holiday season is officially upon us! Here in the Pacific Northwest, candles are already warming windows and lights illuminating houses, staving off the gloom of the oncoming winter. But as magical as this time of year is, it also brings disruptions in our routines that make it hard to keep up our writing practice. So, as December kicks off, we encourage you to revisit your writing goals and plan how you will meet them.

This enlightening guide by esteemed plastic surgeon Dr. Thomas Francel demystifies the plastic surgery experience and the common mistakes people make that lead to botched results. Dr. Francel makes the case that patient requests and poor selection of practitioners often play significant roles in adverse outcomes. He candidly reveals that even board-certified surgeons aren't immune to occasional unfavorable results, due to the constant evolution of surgical procedures.

Exposing Bad Plastic Surgery presents honest, frank, and authoritative information to aid consumers in making decisions about plastic surgery. Dr. Francel exposes the realities behind the surge of poor plastic surgery results, and offers strategies to avoid falling victim to such circumstances. His expertise combined with his candid, no-nonsense approach to a topic often obscured by sensational media portrayals should help readers—and their loved ones to whom they may recommend the book—avoid a “bad plastic surgery” result and a lifetime of regret.

At the Heart of Generosity: What Jesus Actually Said About Money
By John Jonez invites you on a transformative journey into God’s purpose for your financial life. This world is filled with distractions, but perhaps none more powerful than money. Money is both a tool and a temptation, influencing our decisions, shaping our values, and, often, diverting our focus from where it should be.
Rooted in biblical wisdom, this book—designed for individual or group study—reveals God’s original design for our relationship with money, shedding light on the profound relationship between wealth and faith. At its core, At the Heart of Generosity explores how the human heart, when aligned with God’s purpose, finds freedom and joy through gratitude and generosity.

As the holiday season approaches, we at Inspira find ourselves reflecting on the profound gift of storytelling. This season of gratitude reminds us of the extraordinary courage it takes for an author to put words to paper, to share pieces of one’s heart with the world, and to persist in the face of creative challenges.

Every writer knows those moments of doubt—when the words feel clumsy, the message seems unclear, a plot seems impossible to untangle, and you wonder if anyone will ever want to read what you’ve just written. But then, and sometimes it may feel against all odds, things come together. These moments aren’t just victories; they’re reminders of why we chose this path.

Could your character's dialogue stand alone without tags?
If your readers can tell who's speaking without "he said/she said," you've nailed their voice!
Try writing a scene with zero dialogue tags. Make each voice distinct!

Picture this: You are sitting in a lecture and the speaker feels it necessary to give a 30-minute historical preamble before making his main point. You are very sure his point could have been made without the entire history of the Greco-Roman empire . . . and by now, you’ve lost interest. The speaker took far too long to set up his premise, and now, he’s lost his audience and his point, even when made, will fall on deaf ears. Do not let this happen to your readers!

The idea of writing a book is a tantalizing one. If you’ve been around Inspira long enough, you will know we believe everyone has a message, story, or memoir to share. Maybe you are currently writing a book, or maybe you just like the idea of writing a book and you are planning on getting around to it someday . . .

“Someday” does not exist. While we are at it, the vague “tomorrow” doesn’t exist either. These are words we use to dream and procrastinate. Only when “someday” gets changed into July 28th at 3:00 p.m. does it became a reality.

If you want to write a book, you need to actually schedule time to write it. (I know, this seems obvious, but we all need the reminder.) Don’t rely on inspiration. It is a beautiful gift when it comes, but it is unreliable.

Well, it's almost November, so you writers out there know what that means, and no, I am not referring to Thanksgiving, but National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo for short). This annual month-long writing challenge is one of the most popular and productive writing events in the world. It is a fantastic opportunity for writers of all skill and experience levels to put their determination to the test and see if they can write a small novel, or 50,000 words, in 30 days.

And if you are worried it is too late to participate, it’s not! Even though the days are slowly slipping away, you can still sign up, declare a project, set goals, and get writing! If the 50,000 word goal feels unattainable, you can set a smaller personal goal, and get plugged in to the awesome community of writers who will help encourage and support you to hit your goals and create something new and wonderful!

I recently returned from a nearly three-week vacation with my husband to the South West of England, including a side-trip to Jersey, on the (British) Channel Islands off the coast of France. Besides marking a milestone birthday for me, the trip also served as both relaxation AND invigoration. For me, there are few things more inspiring than visiting far-off places with new sights, smells, tastes, and adventures!

Traveling has long been a source of inspiration for writers and authors, providing fresh material and perspectives that can enhance your craft. Whether you're writing fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or personal essays, here are several ways that traveling can help you grow as a writer.

One of the main reasons people lose steam is because they lose sight of their vision and start second-guessing themselves. I have just spent six months on this project and it’s not even that good of an idea. What was I thinking? No one wants to read this book! It’s not turning out exactly how I envisioned. Sometimes old vision is cast out of the way for new vision. This book isn’t a good idea anymore; I have an even better idea. In fact, I’ve been working on this project for a year and I’ve changed. I’m a different person and therefore I need to write a different book. And so, your life gets filled with half finished products.
