First mix of "Ain't That Whiskey Talkin'" done to my liking. We'll see what a rep for the group says tomorrow.

Yesterday was the closing to a final chapter of tracking in the 13 Grit CD project. We finished up with the girls doing the backing vocals and the boy's wanted to add a few more vocals on a couple of tracks. There are only a few I's to dot and T's to cross to have all the tracks ready for the mixing to begin. I guessing by the middle of the coming week I'll start the mixing process..

After spending a little over 7 hours for me in the studio I was ready for a drink. Lizzie wanted to know what I wanted for dinner and of course I said Pizza. A call to Doughbelly's and another great dinner. This time my beloved dog, Theo will not be getting any. LOL !!

Just came in from the studio listening to a track, "Ain't That Whiskey Talking"

Sounding pretty good to me. :)

Busy weekend here at Studio 401 Recording. As I posted earlier I was working with Michael Cruse on Keyboard overdub's for the 13 Grit project Yesterday evening and today We finished 12 tracks, now tomorrow (Saturday) Susan Williams and the Wright Groove is coming to lay down two more tracks for Susan's Second CD. Always a fun time with Susan's band.

I love working with talented musicians and this weekend is full of them.

Had the pleasure of working again with Mike Cruse on Keyboard Overdub's on the 13 Grit project. Knocked off 6 tracks last night and 6 more today.

Michael is a fantast key board player. He's very creative on what to play and when and not to play. That's the mark of a good musician.

He's got a new keyboard from Korg, the "Nautilus". This board has such realistic voices. Piano sounds are very real and the strings are far better that most other keyboards have.

Looking forward later this morning to spend another few hours in the studio with Michael.

Well a bit of an up date on what's been going on here at 401.

Working a project with the band 13 Grit from Southern Illinois. This band has the style of Lynyrd Skynyrd. Hard driving at time with all original material. Great group of guys to work with.

While this was all go in the A/C and heating unit required some attention which turned into a complete replacement. Installation is in progress today and should be up and running by later this afternoon. With this all in place we are ready for a fun filled remaining winter and the coming Spring and Summer.

A few other projects in the talking mode with any up dates as to when they may come about will be announced at later date.

Studio 401 Recording is Wishing all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Had a great weekend here. We had the Susan Williams and Wright
Groove band staying here. They played Friday night in Hoopeston and did a 3-1/2 hour session Saturday in the studio working on a couple of new tracks for the new CD. After that did they did a gig in Catlin. On the session Saturday Susan told me they will have a different drummer for the two songs. To my surprise Arron Bouslog came walking in the door. Arron is one of my all time favorite drummers to work with here in the studio. Such a
solid drummer and has great timing. So I had a great time in the studio Saturday working with a female artist ( Susan Williams ) that I love dearly and a band (The Wright Groove Band) that I love working with with one of my favorite drummers, (Arron Bouslog). I've been waiting for this time to able to start working on Susan's second CD. Still over dub's to be put on these two track then another 10 or so more songs to record. More news as it comes.... :)

A few weeks ago I had a major meltdown of a key piece of equipment here at the studio. I happened during a session and of course it shut the session down. When something like this happens I get a sick feeling in my stomach. I spent the next few days trying to figure out what happened and pulling every trick in the book to fix the problem. Every time I tried something and it failed it was like having a broken heart. I even had a friend of mine who is a tech. and works on studio maintenance and repair from Atlanta Georgia come by to see if he could help. We spent about 4 to 5 hours in the studio trying different things and they didn't work either.

I was at my breaking point and I gave up. I went through the holidays with that sick feeling. Didn't really care any more. My wife kept saying I would figure something out and I'd say "you don't understand"..

Well this past Tuesday night or shall I say early Wednesday morning around 2:30 AM I woke up out of a sound sleep with this thought in my head that there was one more trick that I hadn't tried yet. I almost went out to the studio then to try this last trick but I waited until the morning. I really didn't know if I wanted to go through this heart breaking try with it not working again. I waited a while then said what the hell do I have worry about because I already had myself ready for another failure. I went out to the studio and tried my last trick. It was a couple of hours again. When I try to up date the the OS, (operating system) for the last time I damn near fell out of my chair when the Multi Track Recorder powered up and came back to life. I just sat there looking a the monitor with my mouth open saying OMG!!!! Lizzie came out to the studio for something and as she walked by me I said, "Look at this". I don't know who more excited, me or her.. I spent the next few hours running some tests to make sure everything was back to normal. Went back into the house and made myself a Bloody Mary to celebrate. Later in the day, I went back out to the studio to make sure I wasn't dreaming.

I feel the Good Lord gave me another chance which I haven't stopped thanking him for. What a great Christmas present.

So I'm taking back what I posted about the studio closing because It's alive once again. 😃😃😃

It is with great sadness as of tomorrow January 1, 2023 Studio 401 Recording will no longer be open as a tracking studio. I would like to thank all the artists and groups that have recorded here and that have allowed me to be apart of their musical dreams. 2022 has been bitter/sweet for the studio. We have done more business this year but have had some major equipment failures. It takes a lot of money to keep this place in working order. Over the past 3 years or so I have been having to deal with some health issues that have taken a lot out of me and I just don't have it in me to keep up the fight.

Once again, it's been and Honor and a Privilege to have worked with all the great talent in the area. All that have recorded here at Studio 401 Recording will always hold a special place in my heart.

Thank you all again for allowing myself and the studio to be a part of your musical dreams...

Another project is done here at Studio 401 Recording. The Kolten Taylor CD "Ain't No Cowboy was completed this week. I think Kolten has got some great songs on the CD which I'm sure Kolten will soon be posting, Always kind of bitter sweet when a project is done but there is always something else coming in the door.

I want to thank Kolten for choosing Studio 401 Recording and allowing me to be a part of his project. Kolten put in a lot of hard work on his CD and should be very proud of it, I know I am..

Now on to the next project.................

10/06/2022

There was another Kolten Taylor session that I failed to mention. We had Zach Dable come in to add some guitar licks on Koltens 5 songs. I also want to mention the drums were played by Scott Meece and Bass and additional Guitar licks by Al Wait. I can't thank these musicians enough for the great works they have added to this project.

10/04/2022

Another chapter on the Kolten Taylor project was completed last night. Tobin Hess was here at Studio 401 Recording to add some steel guitar licks. This was the first time I had the pleasure to work with Tobin. He did a great job in putting some icing on the cake. All that's left to do is add some backing vocals and then the fun starts with mixing all the tracks together.

Both Kolten and myself were very pleased with how last nights session went. I think Kolten has got 5 really good songs for this EP CD.

09/27/2022

I'd like to announce that Studio 401 Recording has completed the installation of the new equipment and we are once again open to the public.

We are working on the Kolten Taylor project once again. Doing a few more overdub's and putting the final touches to what I think is going to be a great 5 song EP CD of Kolten's original material. I look forward to being able to start the mixing in the next week or so.

09/17/2022

Do to installation of new equipment Studio 401 Recording will be temporarily out of service for a short period of time. Will post in public when we are back on line.
