We are starting to see the whole Northern Hemisphere pattern beginning to make that shift of the seasons when these larger troughs start diving in across the nation. In particular this weekend diving down toward the Great Lakes. This is going to bring some very crisp air to those regions which could prompt a first frost out that way! We are still watching for a area of low pressure trying to form off the Carolina coast on Saturday to give us some rain this weekend but another reenforcing shot of cooler air towards next week. Is this the full transition to fall finally? I still think we have another bigger warm up in the works before the full fall sets in yet but this is a great start!

Another beautiful sunny September day here on Delmarva. Area of high pressure remains in control keeping it cloudless this morning. Highs today only reaching the mid 70's with low humidity. Going to be keeping it cool all week for the most part with highs in the 70's to low 80's. Weather First At 4 8/30/24

Check this out from this morning! Something we don't see very often over our way is something known as a Mesoscale Convective Vortex or MCV for short! Watch very closely of what looks like a small counter clockwise swirl moving through Central Delmarva this morning and now off the coast. Now what is a MCV? MCVs are relatively rare, averaging 3–4 per year across the US and are sometimes erroneously referred to as “land hurricanes.” Although MCVs and hurricanes share some of the same traits, they develop by different mechanisms. While squall lines typically last a few hours, an MCV can continue on the order of several hours to several days, providing forcing for the development of thunderstorms throughout its lifetime. These spinning features can be identified in satellite imagery long after a parent squall line has dissipated. This is what caused the burst of thunderstorms very early this morning before dying off of our coast. Some fun satellite meteorology for the day!
