2:47 PM: Heads up! Severe thunderstorms could bring heavy downpours and possible damaging wind gusts of 60 mph to the Smokies as they track east into the region.

I hope you all have a fantastic start to the work week. The weather will be great today, but not so much tomorrow. Rain is expected Tuesday and Wednesday with a cool down on Wednesday night.

⚠️⚠️Heads up this morning!⚠️⚠️

Numerous snow and ice covered roads have been reported across the area due to snow that fell l yesterday evening. These light snow accumulations have resulted in hazardous and slick travel conditions across portions of the area this morning with cold temperatures in the 20s area-wide.

Use extreme caution if traveling this morning. Slow down and allow extra time to reach your destination. Snow and ice covered roads, especially secondary and back roads, may be extremely hazardous to drive on this morning. Roads that appear wet may still have black ice which can be difficult to see. Do not assume a well traveled road will be free of ice.

Conditions are forecast to improve between 9 AM and Noon as temperatures begin to warm above freezing.

Wow! I just love Christmas time so much! ♥️🎄

‘Twas the day before Christmas when all through the Park… not a creature was stirring, not even a lark!
The stockings were hung at Chimney Tops with care, in hopes that St. Nick soon would be there.

Truthfully, the creatures in the Smokies probably ARE stirring, perhaps just doing some last-minute holiday shopping (or foraging). 🐿

However you are celebrating this holiday season, whether still preparing for the holidays, enjoying time with friends and family, or taking time for reflection, we hope this season is filled with peace and joy.

A WIND CHILL WARNING remains in effect through at least Saturday. Stay warm and stay safe. Bring the pets inside and check on you elders. We could also see snow flurries Saturday in addition to what we see today.

⚠️ An ARCTIC FRONT is coming!

This cold front will arrive Thursday night bringing rain and gusty winds. The rain will quickly transition into snow with many seeing around an inch or two of snow in the Smoky Mountains. The snowfall will not last long as the front pushes through quickly. Dry cold air settles in behind the front leading to a Flash Freeze Thursday night into Friday morning. Temperatures will be in the single digits with dangerous wind chills in the negative teens. Icy roads will also be a significant issue for many Friday morning and could remain a problem in some areas until temperatures go back above freezing. Power outages will also be a lingering threat, so prepare for that! The arctic air will remain for the weekend.
