I visited the abandoned Castle of the Spicer family. This Castle has been declared a cultural monument, but unfortunately in a country that does not care about culture.

A dark history lurks behind the walls.
The castle was once a institution for children and adults with learning disabilities.
Those trapped there were treated poorly and malnourished for many years.

Castello di Santa Severa is a historic fortress located along the Tyrrhenian coast, about 50 kilometers north of Rome, in the Lazio region of Italy. Its history stretches back over 2,000 years, originally serving as an important defensive structure for the ancient Etruscan city of Pyrgi. Over the centuries, it became a key strategic point due to its location along the Via Aurelia, a crucial road linking Rome to the northern parts of the Italian peninsula.

1️⃣Hurricane Andrew (1992): Category 5 hurricane that destroyed 63,000 homes in Florida and 23 deaths in the U.S. alone in Dade County (Miami). More than $1 billion worth of agricultural damages occurred.

2️⃣Hurricane Katrina (2005): One of the most devastating hurricanes in U.S. history, as it produced catastrophic damage and a huge loss of life. After Lake Pontchartrain's docks overflowed, the cyclonic tidal flooded 80 percent of New Orleans. At least 1,245 people lost their lives.

3️⃣Hurricane Sandy (2012): It became the largest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic and stretched for 1,450 kilometers. It impacted 24 states and caused 160 deaths mostly in New York and New Jersey. Over 100,000 homes were damaged or destroyed in Long Island, Brooklyn, Staten Island and Queens.. More than 2 million people were without electricity.

4️⃣Hurricane Harvey (2017): It caused $125 million worth of damage. Harvey, the wettest storm to touch land, flooded the Houston area with widespread flooding, prompting the displacement of 30,000 residents and the death of 68 people.

5️⃣Hurricane Ian (2022): It killed 150 people in Florida, the deadliest hurricane in the state since 1935. It's the third-costliest hurricane in U.S. history, behind Katrina and Harvey.

6️⃣ Hurricane Helene (201): Helene forced the evacuation of at least two million people. The hurricane is expected to produce billions of dollars in damage to its path.

7️⃣Hurricane Milton 2024): Shortly after Helene, Hurricane Milton slammed Florida provoking tornadoes, destroying homes and leaving millions without power.
