“How are the roads?” They are not fine, so for those of us not getting a snow day, please be careful on your commutes this morning as roads are slick. Buckle up, take it slow, increase your following distance, and allow extra time to your destinations. Translation: don’t drive like you’re in Mario Kart!

It’s getting very slick on the roads….stay home & be safe & warm!! 🥶

UPDATE (4:00 P.M.): Roads around town have slightly improved, City crews continue treating streets and preparation for incoming winter weather. Sidewalks remain extremely slick, as do parking lots. If you don't have to travel, PLEASE STAY HOME! A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Garden City/Finney County until 6 P.M. tomorrow (January 5). The US National Weather Service in Dodge City projects 2-8 inches of snow and ice accumulations up to two tenths of an inch.

UPDATE (11:30 A.M.): Garden City remains VERY slick and much like a skating rink, as First Responders have received numerous calls for lift/medical assists from citizens who have slipped and fallen on the sidewalks and roads as they’ve tried venturing out. Currently, First Responders are only responding to crimes-in-progress, injury accidents/stranded motorists, and emergency situations until further notice.

UPDATE (8:40 A.M.): All area First Responders are currently working on various calls around the city and are only responding to crimes-in-progress or emergency situations until further notice. All travel within the city is being asked to be limited or stopped unless for an emergency. If you don’t have to travel, PLEASE STAY HOME!

ATTENTION GARDEN CITY & FINNEY COUNTY: First Responders have been responding to multiple accidents and slide offs in the county due to the slick roads, and roads and sidewalks are becoming slicker in town. If you do not have to travel, PLEASE STAY HOME!

IF you must travel, drive slow, headlights on, and allow extra time to your destination.

The chance for accumulating snow this weekend is improving. There is now a greater than a 60% probability for snowfall totals of 2 inches or more north and east of the Dodge City area. The highest likelihood for snowfall currently appears to be near the I-70 corridor, which will be monitored closely.

Well!!! This is EXCITING!!! 🤩

Huge news today! Icon Cinema announced their plans to build an entertainment Multiplex in Garden City! This center will feature two "Iconic Mega Screens" (the size of IMAX screens) with fulling reclining luxury seating, one of the largest arcades in Kansas (with prize room), multiple VR machines, 14 lanes of duck bowling, a beer and wine bar, and an outdoor entertainment area with a beer garden, a movie screen, a stage for outdoor concerts, yard games, and other outdoor entertainment! It undoubtedly will become an entertainment hot-spot for our region!

The development looks to start construction in early 2025 with completion before the end of the year. This will add more options for both adults and families in the area to have a place to relax, watch a movie, and enjoy some games! Looking forward to 2025 in Garden City!
