Blizzard?? What blizzard?? The spring equinox occurs at 4:01 a.m. on Thursday so now we turn the page to SPRING!!? Kansas!!!😁

Warm and dry conditions will return to southwest Kansas on Thursday as southwest winds increase to the 15 to 25 mph range by early afternoon. As the southwest winds increase, the afternoon humidity values will fall back to the 10 to 15% range west of Highway 83. This will result in critical fire weather conditions. A Red Flag Warning is in effect for Thursday afternoon.

Latest update from the NWS….

Strong northwest winds will develop behind a cold front which will cross western Kansas overnight. As these strong winds develop...areas of light snow will be possible after midnight. The snow will become more widespread between 4 am and 11 am. These conditions will result in widespread blowing snow. Near blizzard conditions will be possible from the strong gusty winds north of K96, especially between 4am and 10am.

Prepare for more wind with blowing dust & blowing snow a possibility around here. 💨

***This post is no longer current***

Winds will start picking up today, really hit their stride overnight and tomorrow morning, before gradually slowing tomorrow afternoon. While we're not expecting a heavy snow, these very strong winds may cause blowing dust this afternoon and will cause blowing snow overnight into tomorrow.

Confidence has begun to increase on an impactful winter storm for portions of southwest Kansas late Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. Uncertainty remains with the exact intensity of precipitation, but it does look like there is potential for heavy, wind driven snow. Greatest chance for these impacts will be along and north of Kansas Route 96. This is an evolving forecast, check back for updates!
