Oh Spring, how we've missed you here in Humboldt county!

We have been longing for drier days, and that great big ball of fire to show it's face again! Don't get me wrong, we love the rain and know if we want to float in the river this summer, that it's got to happen, but when it stops and we get to play outside again, that's the BEST!!

How does one celebrate World Cancer Day?

Why would you celebrate it?

Maybe for those fighting right now? Maybe for those who lost their lives because of it or the people they left behind?

How ever you think about this day, think about the tiny humans who have Cancer and can’t understand why! Why them? Why does my 11 year old nephew have to go through this? How is this fair? What were you doing at 11?! I’m pretty sure I was playing outside, rain or shine! But this little man, the strongest little man I’ve ever met, is fighting today. On World Cancer Day. Along with hundreds, if not thousands, more.

So today, if you don’t know anyone who has, or is, struggling with this horrific disease, you are one of few my friend. This nasty disease has touched more people than anything I think!

Say his name today, Denver Franklin Madison. Remember that fighters name today.

Happy Chinese New Year to all of our friends and followers celebrating the Spring Festival! Even though we don't personally celebrate, we can't help but admire the vibrant colors, delicious food, and heartwarming traditions that come with this special holiday. From the dragon and lion dances to the red lanterns and fireworks, the celebration is truly something to behold. On National Cheese Lover’s Day, don’t feel bleu, throw a feta or act capriciously. January 20th is a gouda day to kummin over and have some cheddar or asiago or fontina!

There is no firm evidence of how humans discovered cheese making. But legend tells us it was likely that someone created the first cheese by chance. Thousands of years ago, people transported milk and stored it in sheep’s stomachs. Left to sit a few days, the proteins would separate into curds and whey. From there, preserving the solids with salt may have seemed a logical next step. Salt was a highly valued preservative in ancient times.
The earliest record of cheese making dates back to 5,500 BCE in what is now Poland. Today there are over 1,400 varieties of cheese.

We want to wish our youngest Grand-daughter Percy a very Happy First Birthday! We love you so much Persephone Elaine Torres! We've enjoyed a year of seeing your pictures, Oma loved meeting you in March and now getting to celebrate with you today!! We can't wait to watch you grow into a beautiful young lady!

Martin Luther King Jr Day

I know Martin Luther King J. Day is observed tomorrow, January 16th, but his actual birthday is today, January 15th.

King was the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement, which protested racial discrimination in federal and state law. The campaign for a federal holiday in King's honor began soon after his assassination in 1968. President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983, and it was first observed three years later. At first, some states resisted observing the holiday as such, giving it alternative names or combining it with other holidays. It was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in 2000.

The France pack here! Jeremy (Shirt), Sharyn, Barrett and Nala. We are currently calling the Benbow Valley in Humboldt County, California our home. We moved here in Sept 2021 for work and have fallen in love. We have recently become official “Camp Hosts” at the Benbow KOA. Shirt is in charge of security, because of his knowledge of being a 1SGT with a security background in the USAF. Sharyn is the residential Manager because she’s such a peach to work with! Barrett is our diabetic service pup and Nala cat runs the house! We have bigs plans with social media and hope y’all will continue to follow us! We appreciate your support! ❤️

Hey y’all!! It’s Sharyn from the France Pack! I just wanted to jump in here and give a weather update.

Currently we live in Southern Humboldt county in California. These past few weeks have been out wet season and boy are we wet! It’s rained about 40” so far this rainy season. (October 2022 - September 2023)

We do have a nice flowing river now. No, neither of us are going to attempt to kayak it, it’s WAY too bad! I’ll add a some media to show how high the river is.

The first is right above where I jumped in the river for the first and one last year. The others are from the back of our camp.
