Pod Squad.
In 1994 an original illustration of 'Jpod' was created by Kpod Designs artist Kelley Balcomb-Bartok for Springtide magazine, a local periodical produced by the Journal of the San Juans. That same summer while filming FREE W***Y 2 here in the islands, Kelley's design became the official t-shirt for the Walt Conti's "Pod Squad" Animatronics Whale Team.
Fast forward 27 years: the Victoria Royal BC Museum in April 2021 opened a new exhibit specifically on the history of the Southern Resident Killer Whales, and features Kelley's now "Retro" original design t-shirts in their main gift shop.
What a treat and an honor to have a small part in celebrating our beloved SRKW and their history.

In celebration of may we present our collection by artist Kelley Balcomb-Bartok with a few "Retro" shirts making a comeback just as J-pod has settled back into the neighborhood:
POD SQUAD is an illustration Kelley designed back in 1994 of the 'original' J-pod members. This design became the official shirt of the Animatronics Team of FREE W***Y 2;
YIELD was an original concept Kelley created as a graphic design meant to encourage everyone to "Yield for whales" back in 1997;
And presenting our latest design, a graphic Orca EYEPATCH shirt Kelley based on the eye of Hyak, a captive male Orca he visited with many times over the years back in the 1990s at the Vancouver Aquarium.

What once was old is new again...
We recently decided to start bringing back some original designs by Kelley Balcomb-Bartok first created back in the 1990s.

Today’s is a coffee mug design that was once quite popular. The art includes members of Jpod (J1, J2, J20, J32, J18, J16, J17, and J5 to name a few) passing through the San Juan Islands with Mt. Baker in the background.
This new ‘classic’ is a two-tone 17-ounce mug with black handle.
