We are BUSY this month with presentations for the San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce and the Economic Development Council. Nothing makes me happier than helping local artists, businesses, and organizations improve their reach with social media. What questions would YOU ask about having effective social channels?

PSA: Check the expiration date of your SSL certificate on your website. There are pesky reminders that will come from your hosting service to remind you and you probably move them straight to trash. They have become VERY strict about these lapsing and browsers, like Chrome, will stop allowing your site to be viewed. So take a peek or it can cost you days without your site.

Lately, it feels like I should be writing a blog about the “Animals of Treehouse”. There are three plus the myriad of birds that visit the birdfeeder that I have tucked into a tree - far from my cat.

This is Theo and he turned 1 yesterday. He is known to be sitting on my feet, jumping up to say “Hi!” while I am on a Zoom, savoring a sliver of sunlight while stretched on the floor or barking at me to take a play break. He’s a marvelous work partner and he always has this adorable expression on his face. I feel so fortunate to be able to work with this guy nearby!

Yesterday and today have been saturated in emotions. Shock. Sadness. Heartbreak. Then I had a gentle reminder that as an islander (for 25 years this year!) I’ve learned to be resourceful and build beauty with the talented and warm-hearted people that surround me. This community LIFTS people and they can build something magnificent out of a mere vision. I know there is sadness and heartbreak right now and a loss of beloved history, but don’t forget that there will come a point when people are ready for their vision to come to life. These creative and driven business owners will find a beautiful way to preserve the history that created this special place we call home.

Also, thank you Mother Nature for pausing your gale force winds for a day yesterday. 🌬

I love the phrase “Bloom where you are planted.” One of the many things that I appreciate about being a business owner is that I get to choose my clients. When I created Treehouse, we started with two driving principles:
1) Our clients would be bridge builders with a great story to tell. Their intent is to lift others.
2) The Joy Switch - our clients need to flip our Joy Switch. We work with people whom we LOVE working with day in and day out.
It’s that simple.

Every once in awhile, we need to take a leap. That leap might be creating a company that provides a service, a product or an experience and we are in 100%...ok, maybe even 200%.

This is where Treehouse steps into your picture. For local businesses on San Juan Island, we have created a space where small business owners can brainstorm, get inspired, problem solve and connect. Stop by, grab a cup of tea and let’s chat. We have weekly brown bag lunches on Tuesdays from 12-1. Listen to a business leader and then chat openly for 30 minutes. Then it’s back to work for all of us!

For those who are abroad and local, we want to help you with your digital messaging. This might mean that you need help figuring out which social media platforms are best for your audience and what type of content you need to create or you might need a hand creating the actual content.
