UPDATE: Spencer is safe in rescue!!

Name: Spencer
Animal ID: A850385
Age: 2 years
Weight: 23.80 lb.

About: Spencer is a smooth-coated black and white terrier mix who came to PACC on September 17th, 2024 from a home that had over 100 dogs. This situation understandably left him under-socialized and unaccustomed to normal home life. Since his arrival at the shelter, Spencer has struggled to make progress with his social skills and leash training. The shelter environment has proven overwhelming for Spencer. Spencer recently had an altercation with another similar- sized dog, however, as Spencer previously lived with many other dogs, this situation was likely due to the stress of his current circumstances.

Despite his sad history and struggle to adjust, many people have shown interest in Spencer. Sadly, none have been willing to fully commit to him and give him the second chance he needs. Spencer needs the opportunity to thrive in a calmer, more stable home where he will be given ample time to decompress and build confidence. Ideally, he would benefit from living with a confident, well-socialized dog who can show him the ropes and help him learn how to adjust to life in a normal home setting.

Spencer will need an extremely patient adopter who is committed to going at his pace, allowing him the time and space to come out of his shell without forcing handling or overwhelming him. Positive reinforcement and gentle encouragement will be key to helping Spencer build trust and gain confidence in a new environment. With the right home and guidance, Spencer has the potential to blossom and overcome his early life challenges- he just needs help to do so!

Adoption Process:

Interested parties:

Must visit PACC before the 5:00 PM Friday, October 18th deadline to meet with an adoption counselor who will go over notes and then introduce you to ensure that it’s a good fit.
Are encouraged to reach out to a rescue group, to start their process. Have the rescue contact PACC at [email protected]. If you've connected with a rescue, please inform PACC for coordination.

Collaboration with Rescue Groups:

PACC's Role:

If you haven't contacted a rescue, PACC will notify all partnered rescue groups about your interest and request their assistance.

Partnered Rescue Groups:

Spencer will require additional training and support that PACC is unable to provide.
Will be given any interested parties information to contact to start their adoption process.
Are encouraged to start their adoption process with any interested parties who have contacted them directly and email PACC at [email protected].

Spencer will need to find placement with a partnered rescue group by 5:00 PM on Friday, October 18th.

Please note that it is ultimately up to the rescue group's discretion to decide whether to proceed with adoption. Partnered Rescue Groups can pull any dogs on Rescue Only Deadline at any time without an interested party.

Sorry we haven't posted in along time. Mom fractured her foot back at the end of October and was immobilized until recently. She is slowly getting back on her feet again. Mom now has a full time caregiver to help with household chores and take us to appointments. Last month I injured my back when I jumped off the bed (they think that's what happened) and tweaked it and had to be on complete rest. I'm finally back to normal and back to my service dog duties and training. Mom is back to her sewing machines, and has been busy making kennel quilts for the local shelter. She is also available to take orders again. Please see our online catalog. We also want to welcome our new followers. Thank you for your patronage. Feel free to share our page with family and friends.

TORETTO - ID

My name is TORETTO. Toretto is a big, beautiful boy who needs to gain a bunch of weight! He came in with his sister Mia (she's currently in foster) and did very well with her but should meet your pets at home. If you can foster/pre-adopt this boy, please reach out!

Hope of Deliverance, Inc. has sponsored this boy's gastropexy through their vet for anyone who adopts him! This is a proactively life-saving surgery that is such a wonderful weight off your mind, and such a kind gesture. Thank you, Hope!

I am a male, white and gray Great Dane.

I weigh approximately 82.00 lbs.

The shelter staff think I am about 3 years old.

I have been at the shelter since Apr 22, 2024 and ready for adoption!

I am currently in foster care but am available for adoption! If you are interested in adopting me, please email [email protected].

📣 "PIMA COUNTY! We received some great news this week, but we need your help to make it happen!

Thanks to our nonprofit partner, Friends of Pima Animal Care Center, construction is beginning on a major sound-dampening project in our busiest, loudest kennel section, which we refer to around the shelter as 'Phase 2.'

This construction is going to bring an incredible amount of relief to our staff and volunteers, but most importantly, the dogs who live in these buildings 24/7. We are SO excited and grateful that this project is officially underway!

Here's the thing: The contractors informed us that installation itself, which will take about two weeks, is going to be very, very noisy, entirely too noisy for our pups' ears.

That's why we need YOU! We're looking for foster parents who can take a dog home for just two weeks during this construction. In return for fostering a dog weighing 40+lbs, you'll get:
😻 Two weeks of love from an amazing pup
🦴 A crate and food provided by PACC
💵 $5 a day for each day you foster over this period as a small token of thanks from Friends of PACC, and the knowledge that you helped make an amazing thing happen! 💙

We're looking for fosters starting as soon as today, Wednesday, but the project kicks off May 6, so we'll need pups outta here before then! Come to our foster office any day we're open to get started!

Sorry it's been quite a while since we've posted anything. Unfortunately, last year I had a fall in the spring and then in November I fractured my foot in multiple places. I'm slowly healing and starting to walk a bit again. This week I've spent a few happy days back at the sewing machine. Below is a photo of Toby "inspecting" some kennel quilts to be donated to the local animal shelter here in Fresno. With all the flooding in southern California, the shelters here are full. Toby's training has continued in spite of my broken foot. He is doing well although it's been a little difficult as he's had to do the training with my caregiver. I've been able to get back involved with Toby's training this past week. Thank you to everyone for all the get well wishes.

Toby's training session yesterday was on socialization skills at the shelter. The first dog Miss Mariah brought out was Angel, a deaf dog. Toby immediatly recognized Angel was a special needs dog and began guiding her around. So Miss Mariah went to get another dog. I told Toby to protect Angel while Miss Mariah was gone. Toby was awesome and went into guide dog mode! He guided her around the park and to the water bowl. Next came Kevin who Toby has met before in his sessions at the shelter. They began to play immediately. So Miss Mariah went to get Rex. If I could have another dog in the house, it would be Rex! Rex is a beautiful dog and is a sweetheart. I hope he finds a forever home soon. He and Toby hit it off famously. Next came SunnyD. Each time the dogs got bigger and it didn't faze Toby. There were some dogs in the big dog park across the walkway and they were even racing with them! They were all running around the park together having a blast. All the time Toby kept coming back to check on Angel to make sure she was okay and would lead her to water if she needed it. I'm so proud of my little guy! I was having so much fun watching all the dogs I forgot to take photos!

Here’s Toby playing with his friend Tilly. Yes, service dogs have play dates too. He used his “play” button frequently while Tilly was here this morning. 😂
He had training earlier this week with his trainer, Miss Mariah. This time we went to Walmart to work on more distractions and going left and right. He already knew left and right because I had been working with him on which side of my walker to walk on. Miss Mariah was impressed! About an hour into our training session Toby started going behind me which is his way of telling me I need to sit down. I was starting to feel weak. We decided to cut the session short and go home. I checked my blood pressure when we got home and found it had dropped. Good job, Toby!!!!
Toby has been doing an awesome job helping me see during our walks at sunrise and sunset. Even with a hat on, the sun rays blind me due to my vision disability. So I have to rely on Toby to lead me around any obstacles and to watch for traffic within our park.

Just ordered Toby's service dog vest. His training is going so well. Yesterday Miss Mariah took us to Home Depot for training. Toby had to deal with obstacles in aisles as well as large dogs who were also training to be service dogs. He has a little dog/big dog syndrome, but he ignored the other dogs and just steered me around them. Whenever we came to anything in an aisle I was to stop and let him decide what to do. He had to assess the situation and determine whether we could go around or if we should turn back. He made the correct choice in each situation! I am so proud of my little man! Good job, Toby!!

Mom and I had an exhausting day yesterday! We started the day with my training class. Miss Mariah tried to throw me off my lessons by screaking one of my toys behind her back. Once I figured out we weren't going to play, I showed her that mom and I had been practicing all our lessons and mom had added a lot of new corners. I'm getting good at jumping up to let mom know there are corners. As a reward Miss Mariah announced that she felt that I was ready to start going to public places to learn to deal with distractions. She invited our friend Courtney to come over to discuss mom's problems with her vision and hearing out in public. It just so happened they wanted to go to lunch yesterday before my vet appointment. So Miss Mariah recommended a couple dog friendly restaurants. We went to Panera Restaurant. Oh all those people for me to say hello to!!!! However, I figured out that mom has difficulty with her walker going between tables in a restaurant so I had to go to work immediately! So glad I learned corners!! I was able to keep mom from running into anything and didn't jump up on anything. I didn't think it a good idea to jump in a restaurant.
When we got to a table, I immediately went under the table as mom has been teaching me since we became a family. I didn't even try to eat any of the food on the floor. As a reward I received a bite of mom's turkey sandwich and one of my own treats. Mom was so proud of me. My next few service dog training classes are going to be going to dog friendly stores to get use to distractions. Miss Mariah told mom she could order my service dog vest as I'll be certified soon. That doesn't mean my lessons will be over because there's still a lot I have to learn to help mom out in public. But, I'll be able to start helping mom more now.

Our Story

Indy is a Havanese rescued from a puppy mill by HALO (Havanese Angelic League Organization) when he was one year old. His mom adopted him when he was 18 months old. Indy became a certified service and emotional support dog and took his duties very seriously. He also spent time inspecting kennel quilts that his mom makes to send to shelters in need from disasters such as fires, hurricanes, etc. They are members of the Quilt Pattern Magazine Kennel Quilt team. Indy developed epilepsy in 2019 and had to be retired. He is now happily retired with a loving couple in Arizona.

Indy’s Doggie Designs products are all custom made and require up to 2-4 weeks for production and shipping. Quilts require a longer lead time depending on size and design and require a 50% deposit. Quality and our customer’s happiness are our priorities.
