Talk About The Hill Country: Lester Meier & the Gillespie Co. Wild Game Dinner
Every year in Texas, 80 thousand minors and youth are sex trafficked in the state, said Elizabeth Wunderlich, President of the Zonta Club of Fredericksburg. Of the 234,000 working in Texas that are victims of labor trafficking, 13,000 are trafficked in the service industry, which can include cleaning services, childcare, eldercare, as well as sex services.
The reality this statistic reveals is one of many reasons that, Zonta, an international club that empowers women worldwide through service and advocacy, sponsors the “Just Say ‘No’ to Violence Against Women” Campaign. The campaign begins November 25th.
Female victims are three times more likely to experience extreme violence at the hands of traffickers than male victims. Trafficking differs from smuggling, which is illegally transporting a foreigner over country borders. Trafficking is forced labor or service.
In Fredericksburg, three main activities are scheduled to build awareness of both the facts about human trafficking and the resources available to combat it.
• A Banner promoting the campaign
• A display of important facts and resources at the Girl Scout Cabin on Austin Street
• A gathering at the Schatze Haus Resale Boutique on Main St.
The Club has also developed a flyer that can be posted in bathroom stalls and other high traffic areas listing the services in Gillespie County that are available for victims of domestic violence. You can pick up the flyers at the KNAF Offices at 304 E. San Antonio Street starting November 25th.
For more information visit www.ZontasaysNo.com or call 1-888-3737-888 if you suspect trafficking or exploitation.

Texas Rangers Museum Questions and Where it Stands - Retired Texas Ranger Joe B. Davis, President of the Former Texas Rangers Foundation.
The City of Fredericksburg and the Former Texas Rangers Foundation (FTRF) are in a dispute over delays in the Texas Ranger Heritage Center museum project.
The FTRF received a “Notice of Ground Lease Default” for the city-owned property at 1618 E. Main Street, home to the Texas Ranger Heritage Pavilion, a bell tower, and bronze statues. The Heritage Center is located next door to Fort Martin Scott.
The city issued the notice, citing slow progress on Phase II of the project which includes a completed museum.
FTRF reported that these projects were delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, inflation, and rising construction costs. The FTRF, which has already invested $8 million in Phase I, argues these challenges were out of their control and is working with legal counsel to resolve the issue.
The city in local news interviews, however, says the foundation has missed deadlines, and they have given them 13 years to complete the full agreement for a museum. The city has declared they will end the lease on December 5, 2024.
The FTRF says it remains committed to the project and is actively fundraising to complete the museum. But, if the Heritage Center site is reclaimed by the city of Fredericksburg, they would be unable to continue fundraising.
Former Texas Ranger Joe Davis, President of the FTRF, reported on Talk About the Hill Country Monday afternoon, that several months ago they proposed an alternative plan for the museum build. The museum would be built by a hill country firm who would build a hotel at the site, and the museum would be included in the project..
The FTRF is working on an open house/town hall for early next week to share what is happening with the Heritage Center agreement.
Mr. Davis says interested residents can contact him at 830-990-1192 or [email protected] with any questions. The Texa
