Carley, age 81 and Ann, age 75 residents of Mt. Hermon passed away on Wednesday, July 3, 2024. Carley and Ann had been married for 57 years. They were members of First Baptist Church where Carley had served as deacon. They devoted their lives to their children and grandchildren.

Lester Dykes, 82, a resident of Franklinton passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024 at his residence. He was married to the love of his life Dianne Turnage Dykes for 57 years and was very fond of his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Crain’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church.

Thomas Paul “Tom” Lilly, 88. a resident of Franklinton died at 6:31 AM, Wednesday, July 3, 2024 at Resthaven Living Center in Bogalusa, La. Tom was a member of Faith Tabernacle Apostolic Church. He was a dairyman and enjoyed spending time with his family.

The 8U Franklinton Fury All-Stars finished their season last weekend after winning one major tournament and placing second in another. The team won the championship for the All=Star Summer Classic (June 22-23), and then they placed 2nd in the All-Star Pelican State Tournment (June 29-30)/

Jason Smith of Mount Hermon officially became Washington Parish Sheriff last Friday evening. He was sworn in to office in front of a crowd of deputies, other officials, and supporters. The Sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Franklinton was the setting for the wedding nuptials of Miss Kennedy Noelle McElveen and Mr. Alexander O'Neil Kennedy. The ceremony was held at six o'clock in the evening on Saturday, May 11th, 2024. The bride wore a custom Jasmine Couture gown of Mikado satin, featuring a detachable cathedral train accented with satin covered buttons and a bow.

Happy Independence Day/4th of July Everyone! It is an especially celebratory day for me, as it is the day that my first born made his entry into the world. I remember that day like it was yesterday, as all mothers can attest to. In addition, I hope that everyone’s 4th of July holiday is a safe one and that we never take our independence for granted.

Nolan David Alford, 85, a longtime resident of Mount Hermon passed away peacefully at his home Thursday afternoon June 27, 2024 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Mt. Hermon on December 14, 1938 and was a graduate of Mt. Hermon High School Class of 1957. Nolan David owned Alford Appliance Sales and Service in Osyka, Mississippi, where he lived for several years, operating the business along with his wife for 27 years.
