Congratulations on your engagement! Now it’s time to start planning all the fun parties before the big day!

Engagement Party
The engagement party is the first event to take place after the proposal. Traditionally, the engagement party is hosted by the bride’s parents, but anyone can be the host — even the couple themselves if they choose!

Bridal or Couple Shower
Typically, bridal showers take place two months to two weeks away from the wedding date. As for who is to host the bridal shower, that is really up to the bride. Anyone from aunts, cousins, grandmothers, mother-of-the-bride or friends tend to host. The almost newlyweds can even decide to do a couple shower to be more inclusive. Couple showers have become increasingly popular over the past few years!

Bachelorette & Bachelor Party
For the bachelorette and bachelor parties, the maid of honor and best man are typically the ones to plan this outing. Whether you decide to keep it local or travel, that will be up to the soon-to-be bride and groom! A few popular bachelorette and bachelor parties are Las Vegas, Miami, Nashville, Cabo, Key West, New Orleans and Charleston! It’s important not to plan these trips too early or late before the wedding. Between one to four months out is ideal. Be sure to give attending guests one to two months before the trip to plan accordingly if tickets and passports.

Rehearsal Dinner
Wedding rehearsals are crucial in making sure your big day runs smoothly. The type of rehearsal dinner will be up to the couple; choices range from a backyard barbeque to a formal sit-down dinner. After dinner, it’s usually a great time for the Best Man and Maid of Honor to make their toast. Sometimes a toast is kicked off by the groom and will cut down on talk time at the actual wedding. Lastly, Be sure to reiterate essential details for the wedding for the next day to your family members and friends!

Remember: The purpose of these parties and showers is to celebrate you and your spouse. So try to relax, have fun, make memories, enjoy the company of family and friends and be spoiled a bit— you deserve it!

How to Choose Your Dream Dress: 10 Tips

Make an Appointment: Call ahead of time to guarantee you will have assistance finding your dress. Try to avoid the weekends when you can, it can be best to go on the weekday when it is less crowded.

Wear Heels to the Appointment: Bring heels of about the same height that you would most likely wear on your wedding day, that way you can truly imagine how the dress will look on the big day.

Shop with Enough Time: Generally, you should start browsing for a dress six months to a year before the wedding. That way, you have time to add in some buffer room if alterations need to be made.

Remember to Factor Other Items into Your Dress: Your budget for your dress may be $2,000, but remember you’ll have extra expenses on top of this for your whole look. You may need alterations and you will need to factor in the cost for shoes, a veil and any other accessories you plan to have.

Don’t Try on a Dress Outside Your Budget: You know you are going to fall in love with it… so do not be tempted in the first place, do NOT try it on!

Keep an Open Mind: It may not look like your style, or maybe it looks a little odd on the hanger, but you never truly know what the dress looks like until you try it on!

Decide Carefully on Who You Want to Bring: Consider bringing a small group of three to five people – mother, mother-in-law, siblings or best friends. Having too many people there might drown out your thoughts.

Visit Sample Sales or Trunk Shows: On a budget? You may score that dream dress with a discount. Bring a good crew and be prepared to scour the hangers.

Read the Fine Print: Before you dot the i’s and cross the t’s, make sure you review the contract carefully. You’ll want to have a number of things written down so you are prepared – write down your measurements, price of gown, size, date of delivery, designer and the deposit amount.

Buy a Dress That Fits Now. You may be focused on losing pounds before the big day, but your body won’t drastically change too much in that timeframe. It’s also a lot easier to take a gown in than it is to make a small-dress work. You want to be comfortable and look flawless in your dress!
