Some scenes from an early morning in the Cullasaja River Gorge with a surprise proposal at Dry Falls. The first two shots are small waterfalls on the Cullasaja River that I had not seen before. I doubt they have names as they are small cascades and not easily accessible. All pics are shot with the Mavic 3 Pro + Freewell ND/CPL 8.

A cloud inversion, also known as a temperature inversion, is a rare weather phenomenon that occurs when the air temperature increases with height, instead of decreasing as normal. This happens in valleys when the air near the ground is colder than the air higher up. The inversion creates a stable air mass that acts like a lid, trapping air and preventing it from rising. While they are in other places, they are a common occurrence in western North Carolina.

A journey above and below the iconic Cullasaja Falls in the Nantahala National Forest. First time really using my FPV drone mixed in with my gimbal drones. A little shaky on the sticks as they fly so differently. Enjoy this on as big a screen as you can! :D

Out on another early morning shoot, I was heading out of Cowee Valley when I drove up on this barn with the quilt pattern on it. Here in Macon County (NC), there is a quilt barn trail, with barns and homes are decorated with quilt blocks.

From history of The Quilt Trail โ€œQuilt trails are created by quilt guilds, civic groups, local arts councils, 4-H clubs, school groups, and other organizations. Most are a countywide effort, which allows for a distinct trail in a single area and creates local pride in the project.โ€

Many spots throughout Macon County have quilt blocks on barns and buildings to show theyโ€™re a part of the Macon County Quilt Trail.

โ€œNegative ๐Ÿ‘ป rider the pattern is fullโ€. - Every flight deck commander in Top Gun movies.

I debated posting this image of our little Macon County Airport, but decided I like it too much not to. I shot this photo while searching around the airport a few weeks ago for a missing pup. I had spoken to the airport staff about searching, my flight intentions, and their inbound/outbound schedule. I was given the ๐Ÿšฆ all clear to fly and grid search. Just wanted to make sure all my other drone operators and drone ๐Ÿ‘ฎ๐Ÿป know that I had all the approvals ๐Ÿ˜‰ and all my ๐Ÿฆ† in a row.

This section of road is home to incredible waterfalls, including the spectacular Cullasaja Falls in the upper middle of the photo. The 250โ€™ falls are the tallest in the gorge.

Sun spot AR 3664 (AR = Active Region) causing the magnificent aurora displays last night. I shot this photo at 1:45pm EST 05/11/24. This group of active sun spots covers an area of the sun over 3 billion square kilometers (1,864,113,576 miles). Activity should continue tonight and tomorrow night if, like me, you missed it last night. Happy aurora hunting!

I was asked by a friend if I could get a photo of the poppies that were in bloom alongside the highway here in Franklin. It was only after capturing it that I recalled the significance of the poppies as they pertain to Memorial Day, which is of course in just a couple weeks from now. With that in mind, here is the poem written by John McCrae, a Canadian who served in World War I, wrote this poem while in Belgium in an area known as Flanders, after a friend of his died in an artillery attack and buried in a makeshift grave.

In Flanders Fields | John McCrae | 1872โ€“1918

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ - In honor of all we have lost in service to our country, please share this if you feel moved to do so.
