Got this bad boi album all finished up and it’s releasing this Friday at the LoFi lounge.
The Bellow Cranes full length album with their single: Peer Pressure.

The album was mega fun to record as the band members are just the epitome of nice people and the songs are written incredibly well. Love the album.

Everyone meet Bryn !

For his senior year project he donated time to painting this sweet mural on my studio entrance walls!

Using outdoor paint in blacks, whites and yellows, keys were painted to keep the vintage feel and vibe of the studio. I absolutely love this.

When he first approached me to do a mural he asked what I’d like done. I wanted to see what Bryn would come up with and so free reign was given. How cool is that final product?!?

https://linktr.ee/electricroystudios Today on I talk about mixing a vocal chorus.

Choruses especially can benefit from multi tracking vocals. When you add a secondary, tertiary, or even quaternary vocal line the overall effect feels smoother, beefier, and more rounded.

In this instance we have a main line with its normally added secondary line. I’ve then added two additional lines that are panned left and right of center. There are an additional two panned closer left and right and then one more instance of two left and right but these we changed octave and he sang a falsetto.

came in today and helped me with a cool project! He sang a vocal rendition of Chicago Cubs fight song “go cubs go” but with some lyrical changes to reflect the Franklin Indiana Grizzly Cubs. It’ll be played during Franklin baseball games!

>>> Mixing can be very difficult and it takes a long time to get even remotely good at. There is so much to learn. But one super tip is that 80% of mixing really boils down to Equalization (EQ) and Volume. These two aspects will get you to a very close mix. Sprinkle in your compressions, verbs, delays/etc and you're on your way.

Production Tip Sunday:
*Listen with headphones*

Drums create space.

When recording or mixing, always start with drums because all other instruments fall into the space your drums will create.

In this instance I start with the overheads off which creates a more up front direct sound. This is because only the direct mics are in use.

When the overheads are engaged it produces a more full body, drums-in-a-room feeling. Overheads really are the overall sound of your drum set.

Production Tip! Peaked files mean clipping files. Unless you’re specifically trying to clip in order to saturate or distort, wav files that are peaking are bad!! 😭😢😤
Clipping introduces distortion, pops, and clicks. This can ruin a perfectly awesome take.

Make sure to properly gain stage prior to recording to get the best audio possible from the get go!

Stole some photos from from Sunday’s session. Incredibly fun day of tracking with His friend, , created a beat and we re-engineered with drums from , sax/flute from , and bass/keys from B2 himself. It’s turned into a full on 70s feel. Really incredible track.
